* \u00a0 Western Cape Tourism Minister Alan Winde has announced the launch of a R6,5 million Design Innovation Seed Fund to kickstart its new Design Park, to find the province’s next Mark Shuttleworth. \u00a0The Design Park will be housed in the Cape Craft and Design Institute. \u00a0Applications for funding to make local design ideas a reality are now open to students, entrepreneurs, and small businesses. \u00a0The value of the Cape’s design industry is R14 billion, which could rise to R20 billion with the launch of the Fund, and employ 14000 persons, said Minister Winde. * \u00a0 Kleine Zalze Wines \u00a0has appointed Alastair Rimmer as its new winemaker. \u00a0He studied viticulture in Stellenbosch, and has worked locally at Overgaauw, Agusta, Vergelegen Wines, and Darling Cellars, as well as internationally at wineries in Spain, California, Australia, and in New Zealand. * \u00a0 The new Immigration Regulations, \u00a0which become effective from 1 October, are likely to<\/span> cost our country 270000 tourists in the next year<\/strong><\/a>, with a value of R9,7 billion, which translates into 21000 jobs in the tourism industry, according to a study conducted by tourism consultancy Grant Thornton. The research was commissioned by the Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA), but has not yet been presented to Malusi Gigaba, the Minister of Home Affairs. \u00a0 The tourism industry’s request to delay the implementation of the Immigration Regulations by twelve months has fallen on deaf ears to date!<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Spier is hosting a \u2018Burgers and Blends<\/em>\u2018 event on 6 September, with winemaker Johan Jordaan leading participants through his wine blending secrets, \u00a0and will encourage them to blend their own Spier Creative Block 3. \u00a0Spier\u2019s Eight restaurant will offer a Farmer Angus Beef Burger, served with Gorgonzola, and a plum and pink peppercorn chutney. \u00a0Cost is R175. \u00a0(received via e-mail from Spier Wine Farm)<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 A new exhibition of ‘Wine Made Art<\/em>‘ will open at Tokara<\/strong><\/span><\/a> in September, consisting of works of art created by 45 students at the Mari\u00e9 Stander School of Art, using Tokara Shiraz 2011. \u00a0The theme the students had to address in their works of art is ‘2014 World Design Capital – Cape Town<\/em>‘. \u00a0The opening of the art exhibition will coincide with the release of the Tokara Director’s Reserve, Reserve collection, and Limited Release wines.<\/p>\n
