* \u00a0 The City of Cape Town is spending\u00a0R3\u00a0million on the soccer match between\u00a0Bafana\u00a0Bafana\u00a0and Nigeria for the Africa Confederation (AfCon) Cup qualifier at the Cape Town Stadium on 10 September. One wonders what benefit this would have for the tourism industry. In the past the soccer matches with international teams have not benefited our city and its tourism industry when former Councillor and Tourism Mayoral Committee member Grant Pascoe used this as his main strategy to\u00a0try and\u00a0boost tourism! * \u00a0 UK wine writer\u00a0Jancis\u00a0Robinson praises\u00a0Franschhoek\u00a0as a gourmet and tourism town, but writes that there are few wineries. She describes it as a place ‘where the swallows make their own wine<\/strong><\/a>‘<\/em>! \u00a0She highlights\u00a0Boekenhoutskloof\u00a0as the best known and Chamonix as the most consistently performing wineries in the village. She generally praises\u00a0Franschhoek’s\u00a0terroir\u00a0as being ideally suited to S\u00e9millon, and particularly winemaker Gottfried\u00a0Mocke’s\u00a0Sauvignon Blanc and S\u00e9millon blend, the 2012 vintage in particular.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Tourism booking cancellations have led Cape Town Tourism to issue a statement about Ebola:\"\"‘Cape Town Tourism would like to remind would-be visitors that there have been no confirmed cases of Ebola in South Africa during the recent outbreak. In addition, no cases of Ebola have been reported in our neighbouring countries either. Nevertheless, our borders and airports are being closely monitored. Thermal detection equipment is being used to scan for people who have fevers. Should a case materialise our immigration staff and medical teams are well-equipped to manage the disease instantly and responsibly. In terms of distance and technological capability we are no more at risk than a country in Europe, for instance’.<\/em><\/p>\n
