* \u00a0It’s the start of Tourism Month, and Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom has advised South Africans to visit the sites that pay homage to the late Nelson Mandela<\/strong><\/span><\/a> at the launch of the month long focus on tourism, culminating in World Tourism Day on 27 September. \u00a0The theme this month is ‘Tourism Transforming Lives’. <\/em>\u00a0Domestic Tourism is an important focus for our country, especially given the decrease in international tourists which can be expected due to the new Immigration Regulations. \u00a0A target of 18 million domestic tourists has been set for 2020. \u00a0The theme of World Tourism Day is ‘Tourism and Development in the Community’<\/em>.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Coca Cola has won Grand Prix Awards<\/a><\/strong><\/span> for Overall Favourite Brand as well as Community Upliftment at the <\/span>Sunday Times<\/strong> Top Brands Awards, as well as Favourite Soft-Drink Award. \u00a0Eskom received the ‘<\/span>Green’<\/em> Grand Prix for preserving the environment, and Shoprite was named the top Grocery Store Award. \u00a0Other winning brands are Nokia, Tastic, KOO, Nike, KFC, and Ricoffy.<\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0MasterChef SA Season 3 Finalist Sipho Mdlankomo has made headlines in the UK<\/a><\/span> Telegraph<\/strong>, for her achievement, and for the poor working conditions and pay for domestic workers (quoted incorrectly, far below the minimum wage level). \u00a0The EFF MPs wearing domestic uniforms and aprons are brought into the story too, with Sipho positioning herself as a champion for fellow workers. \u00a0It’s a shame that her dream to open a restaurant is not mentioned!<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Uber has launched its service in 205 cities in 45 countries around the globe, and added the service in 24 cities today, which include Warsaw, Prague, Istanbul, Beirut, Lisbon, and Gothenburg. * \u00a0 <\/span>The One&Only Cape Town is offering a number of events related to food and wine in September.<\/strong><\/a> \u00a0On Wednesday 3 September Hamilton Russell Vineyards is doing a vertical tasting of its Pinot Noir, at Nobu, costing R450; \u00a0on 10 September Overture Chef Bertus Basson cooks at the hotel, the 4 course dinner costing R345; on 18 September the Gala Benefit Dinner and Auction in aid of the African Lion will be held, costing R750; \u00a0and on 24 September George Dalla Cia will pair his wines with a 5 course dinner, at R350. * \u00a0 Grande Provence will be the start and end point of the 5 km and 10km Survivor’s Walk of Hope, organised by Out of Africa Children’s Foundation, this coming Saturday 6 September, and the participants will be met at the finish by Archbishop Desmond Tutu. \u00a0The Foundation raises funds for children with life-threatening and terminal illnesses.
