* \u00a0To grow Tourism, our country should focus on attracting tourists in other African countries, and\u00a0work with other African countries to combat common issues,<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Minister of Tourism Derek\u00a0Hanekom\u00a0told the Hospitality Investment Conference Africa (HICA) in Cape Town yesterday. \u00a0Issues that need a joint approach are easier inter-country travel on the continent, and addressing the spread of Ebola and the perception that Africa is one country, which is infected with the disease.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Slow Food is celebrating its 25th anniversary<\/strong><\/a>, having been founded in Italy to counter the growth in fast food. \u00a0It celebrates the\u00a0‘diversity of food, the richness of our traditions, the connection between what we eat and how it is produced. Since then, Slow Food is the only movement to connect the pleasure of food with social responsibility; fighting for the fundamental right to good, clean and fair food for everyone<\/em>‘.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 South Africa has overtaken Spain to become the\u00a0fifth largest seller of wines in the UK.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0Argentina, Australia and South\u00a0\"\"Africa are the only three of the top 10 wine supply countries showing growth in sales in the UK. \u00a0South Africa’s wine sales growth has been 5% in volume and 7% in value, to \u00a3521 million. \u00a0It is projected that our country may overtake the USA into 4th position in the next two years. \u00a0The UK wine, beer and spirit market grew by 1% in the past year, largely driven by an increase in the sale of sparkling wine (up by 13%) and Champagne.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Nederburg\u00a0has launched a new 56 Hundred range<\/strong><\/a>, consisting of a white Pinot\u00a0Grigio\u00a0and a red Pinot Noir, both very popular grape varietals in the targeted UK market. Current\u00a0Nederburg\u00a0wine drinkers as well as new wine lovers, who enjoy the new range’s high quality and good value, are the target market. \u00a0The wine range is named after\u00a0Philippus\u00a0Wolvaart, the\u00a0Nederburg\u00a0‘forefather<\/em>‘, who paid 5600 guilders to buy the farm in\u00a0Paarl, which he subsequently named\u00a0Nederburg.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Cape\u00a0Winemakers\u00a0Guild wines have been sealed with a security foil for the first time, to safeguard the authenticity of every wine which will be auctioned at the 30th Guild Auction at\u00a0Spier\u00a0on 4 October. \u00a0This measure is designed to prevent counterfeiting of the wines, as has been happening in some high-profile instances internationally. \u00a0Led by David Finlayson of\u00a0Edgebaston, the Cape\u00a0Winemakers\u00a0Guild project was designed to ‘protect the integrity and assurance of quality of the wines sold annually at this event’<\/em>, he said. \u00a0The security foil strip has an additional role of communicating the year in which the wine was sold on auction.
