CEO Carina Gouws emphasised the importance of the UK market: &#8216;<em>The UK remains the most important market globally in terms of positioning premium brands. \u00a0Wines that perform well in there are noticed by the rest of the world&#8217;. <\/em>\u00a0 The company is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedrinksbusiness.com\/2014\/09\/distell-ramps-up-premium-activity-in-uk\/?article-source=newsletter&amp;source=975&amp;date=2014-09-18\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>planning to aggressively<em>\u00a0<\/em>increase its market share four fold<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, focusing more on independent retailers and the on-trade in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>* \u00a0 A review of the MyCiTi Bus performance has shown that<a href=\"http:\/\/www.capetown.gov.za\/en\/Pages\/RevisedtimetablesrouteoptimisationforMyCiTiservice.aspx\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong> the service surpassed its target<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>by over 2 million &#8216;<em>passenger journeys<\/em>&#8216;, reaching 7,4 million in the past financial year. The recent introduction of the N2 Express to Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain has boosted the passenger numbers to over 1 million per month. \u00a0Changes to be made to routes include culling the Waterfront Silo extension from the Civic Centre on the Camps Bay route (which we<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whalecottage.com\/blog\/cape-town\/new-myciti-bus-camps-bay-va-waterfront-route-whale-of-a-value-not-running-smoothly-yet\/\"> criticised from the outset<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>when launched a year ago). \u00a0Route 113 along Ocean View Drive from Three Anchor Bay to Fresnaye will be cancelled on 6 October, due to low demand. \u00a0One wonders why market research was not conducted to check demand for the service.<\/p>\n<p>* \u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eturbonews.com\/50462\/cape-town-why-it-best-city-do-business\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>World Travel Market Africa<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 15 &#8211; 17 April next year, <!--more-->once again with support from the City of Cape Town&#8217;s very low-key Tourism, Events, and Marketing Directorate.<\/p>\n<p>* \u00a0 The Beautiful South showcase of wines from South Africa, Argentina, and Chile held in London recently, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedrinksbusiness.com\/2014\/09\/beautiful-south-back-with-a-flourish\/?article-source=newsletter&amp;source=976&amp;date=2014-09-19\">attracted more than 1200 trade representatives,<\/a><\/strong><\/span><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedrinksbusiness.com\/2014\/09\/beautiful-south-back-with-a-flourish\/?article-source=newsletter&amp;source=976&amp;date=2014-09-19\">\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>The event will only be held in 2016 again, as CapeWine will be held in our country next year.<\/p>\n<p>* \u00a0The top Veritas double-gold and gold medal wines and brandies can be tasted around the country. In Cape Town the tasting will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on 15 October (cost R150); \u00a0in Johannesburg the tasting will be held at the Sandton Convention Centre on 28 October (cost R160); in Durban the tasting will be held at Deloittes Head Office on 5 November (cost R110); the Port Elizabeth tasting is at the Garden Court Kings Beach Hotel on 11 November (cost R110); and in Knysna the tasting will be held at Kilzer&#8217;s Kitchen on 13 November (cost R120).
