* \u00a0\u00a0Morocco beat South Africa as the number one recipient<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0of the 56 million tourists visiting Africa last year, with 10 million travelers, followed by South Africa (9,5 million), and Egypt (9,1 million). \u00a0Tunisia is 4th ranked, at 6 million, followed by Algeria (2,7 million), Mozambique (2,1 million), Zimbabwe (1,8 million), Kenya (1,6 million), Uganda (1,2 million), and Swaziland (1 million).<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 World Tourism Day was celebrated yesterday (27 September), and our Minister of Tourism ‘Derek Hannekom’<\/em>\u00a0(sic), according to SA Tourism, said the\u00a0priority of our local tourism industry should be on community development.<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0He is encouraged by Voluntourism, whereby tourists visit our country and get involved in a \u00a0community project during their stay. \u00a0United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon echoes Minister Hanekom’s view, saying that Tourism assists in teaching communities skills, creates jobs, and generates business opportunities.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Western Cape Tourism Minister Alan Winde and an entourage cycled from Durbanville to his city centre office on Friday, to attract attention to the Western Cape as a cycle-friendly destination, and the new Cycle Tourism Framework. \u00a0The Minister said: ‘We are gearing up to turn the Western Cape into a cycling tourism hub. My goal is to attract over 100 000 cyclists to our region per year for event and leisure cycling. We needed to put a plan in place to achieve this, with the support of the cycling fraternity. This framework is a first step in doing just that. \u00a0During this financial year, the province is aiming to attract close to 3 million domestic and international visitors. We need to spread the economic benefits these visitors bring to our province, and we must give tourists more reasons to visit the Western Cape. This is where niche products such as cycle tourism fit in<\/em>‘. \u00a0The Cycle Tourism Framework consists of road cycling, mountain biking, and creating a cycling culture. * \u00a0 More than 8000 passengers (tourists, Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company staff, and locals) have used the MyCiTi Bus since it introduced its (Bus 110) service to Table Mountain<\/strong><\/span><\/a> in the past ten weeks. \u00a0The bus runs every 15 – 20 minutes, between 7h00 – 19h00.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The two Nobu restaurants in London have each lost their Michelin star<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, in the latest Michelin Guide. \u00a0 One wonders if the standard of the Cape Town operation has declined as well, not being spoken about anymore?<\/p>\n
