* \u00a0 World Design Capital 2016 will be hosted by Taipei,<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0and the city received the baton for the bi-annual event from incumbent Cape Town last weekend from the President of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design, with Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille present. Taipei’s theme will be ‘Adaptive City: Design in Motion’. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

* \u00a0Crown Princess Mary of Denmark will open the ‘Danish Showroom for Design, Architecture and Consumer Goods<\/em>‘<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>at Youngblood in Cape Town on 3 November. \u00a0Danish design products of ten companies will be on display, and the exhibition aims to improve collaboration between our country and Denmark. \u00a0Entrance is free, from 4 – 6 November.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 A Ghandi tourism route has been developed<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, and was launched in Johannesburg by SA Tourism, with thirteen places on the route around the country associated with Mahatma Gandhi during his time in our country. Ghandi spent 21 years in South Africa, from 1893 to 1914, and was influential in standing for civil rights, passive resistance, and freedom.<\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Luxury food magazine Saveur has rated airline food<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, Emirates receiving its highest rating for First and Business Class meals, and described as ‘dazzling’<\/em> and ‘a pleasure’<\/em>. \u00a0Seven course meals are served on fine bone china with vintage wines, and are low in fat, on salt, and in sugar. \u00a0 Oman Air received a nod from the magazine’s readers for its ‘substantial and lavish meals<\/em>‘, offering Dom Perignon, caviar, and other delicacies. \u00a0Etihad Airways, Delta Airlines, and Singapore Airlines received ‘Outstanding<\/em>‘ mentions. \u00a0In respect of Economy airlines Singapore Airlines was rated tops, its meals described as ‘exquisite and thoughtful<\/em>‘. \u00a0‘Outstanding’<\/em> mentions went to Turkish Airlines, Korean Air, and Virgin Atlantic.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Hermanuspietersfontein winemaker Bartho Eksteen is leaving the Hermanus wine estate at the end of this month, to dedicate himself completely to his Die Wynskool based in Stellenbosch. \u00a0He plans to move it to Hermanus, I was told by one of the winery staff. \u00a0Nederburg red wine maker Wilhelm Pienaar takes over as winemaker at Hermanuspietersfontein on 1 December. * \u00a0 The Red Bull Doodle Art competition will be displayed in Cape Town from 24 – 26 October, the best doodles from around the world on display. \u00a0The exhibition forms part of World Design Capital 2014. \u00a0Some of the works have been translated into merchandise, as part of the Red Bull Collection. \u00a0Forty countries will participate, Sri Lanka, India, Costa Rica, Algeria, Japan, and Poland being newcomer countries to the competition, now in its 8th year.<\/p>\n
