* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Kokkedoor judge and Chef Nic van Wyk and Roxy Laker have opened\u00a0bistro 13 at Stellenbosch Vineyards<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(Welmoed) (photograph)<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Idiom Wines<\/strong>\u00a0is said to be opening a restaurant.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0The Butcher Shop & Grill<\/strong>\u00a0has opened next to Sotano in Mouille Point.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Michael Townsend<\/strong>\u00a0(who own the La Parada, Lucky Fish, Harbour House emporium) has\u00a0opened Tiger’s Milk<\/strong> in Muizenberg, the venue having previously been earmarked for a steakhouse.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Neil Grant and his business partner Barry Engelbrecht (of Burrata) have opened new restaurant\u00a0Bocca\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/a>on the corner of Bree\"\"and Wale Streets, \u2018more low key, more Bree Street, more user-friendly<\/em>\u2018, with an Italian pizza oven too. \u00a0They are also taking over the River Caf\u00e9 (renaming it) at Constantia Uitsig.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Hard Rock Caf\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0has returned to South Africa, and has opened the first of four branches on Mandela Square in Johannesburg. \u00a0Branches in Cape Town, Pretoria, and Durban are planned.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0NV-80<\/strong>\u00a0has opened in the Checkers building in Sea Point.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Baked in the Wood<\/strong>\u00a0is to open in Woodstock in 2015, offering craft beer and tapas, and is owned by Zahir Mohamed of Baked Bistro.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/span>The Lunch Depot<\/strong>\u00a0has opened on Christiaan Barnard Street.<\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Hard Pressed Caf\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0has opened at the bottom of Bree Street.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Craig Cormack has opened a\u00a0Pop-Up Pizza & Pasta Restaurant<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>next to the\u00a0All\u00e9e Bleue\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0winetasting centre, open until end September.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0CreATE Inspirational Caf\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0has opened in Stellenbosch.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Chef Thomas Sinn<\/strong>\u00a0has opened\u00a0Rivendell Restaurant\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/a>on Rivendell wine estate, on the road between Bot River and Hermanus. \u00a0He has been a past\u00a0Eat Out<\/strong>\u00a0Top 10 Restaurant owner (The Blue Danube), opened Buitenverwachting restaurant, and owned Sinn’s, now having closed all his Cape Town restaurants.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 popupitalian<\/strong> has opened in Sea Point by Chef Giancarlo Peroni<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Palma<\/strong> has opened on Bree Street.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Mother’s Ruin<\/strong> Gin Bar has opened on Bree Street.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Snob Food<\/strong> is to open on Bree Street in March<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Kleinsky’s Delicatessen<\/strong>\u00a0has opened on Regent Road in Sea Point.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Blacksmith’s Kitchen<\/strong> has opened in Paarl.<\/p>\n

Restaurant Closures<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Jewel of India<\/strong>\u00a0on Rose Street has closed down.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Casparaus<\/strong>\u00a0has closed down in Stellenbosch<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Lanique Bistro & Bar<\/strong>\u00a0in De Waterkant has closed down.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Sadly\u00a0Chef Bruce Robertson<\/strong><\/a>, who owned the Flagship in Simonstown, a Guest House and Restaurant, passed away on 3 November.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Polana<\/strong> in Kalk Bay has closed down, and now is the smoking section of Harbour House Kalk Bay.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Addictions<\/strong> in Sea Point looks very closed, with a chain at the front door, and a notice inside stating that it is under construction, but there is no construction work visible in the tiny space.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Giancarlo’s Italian Deli<\/strong> has closed down on Bree Street.<\/p>\n

Restaurant chef\/staff\/venue changes<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Morgenster<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is planning a new restaurant, a Caf\u00e9, a Deli, and accommodation, a project which is still in development phase, but is planned to roll out next year.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Fyndraai<\/strong>\u00a0has moved into a new restaurant building on Solms-Delta, making space for the current restaurant venue to become the tasting room. \u00a0The restaurant building was previously a stable, and is next to the new Music van de Caab building.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Haas\u00a0has moved to Buitenkant Street<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Fisherman\u2019s Catch<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>in Franschhoek\u00a0has closed, after re-opening twice this year. \u00a0It had a new sign West Coast Farm Stall and Coffee Shoppe, but that has also been taken down. \u00a0Its new signage is The White House, and a coffee shop\/restaurant inside, called Aptyt! \u00a0It also sells Addictions (ice cream shop brand in Cape Town)!<\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Craft Bakery,<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Craft Wheat & Hops\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>has opened\u00a0where Apprentice used to be in Andringa Street in Stellenbosch.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Chef Andres Cond\u00e9<\/a>,<\/strong>\u00a0formerly from elBulli and Tickets Michelin-star restaurants, has joined the\u00a0Harbour House Group<\/strong>. \u00a0He will eventually open a fine dining restaurant in the Constantia Nek restaurant building<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Company\u2019s Garden Restaurant will be taken over by the Zingara Group, and renamed\u00a0Haarlem & Hope.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Carl Penn of Pedlars on the Bend has opened\u00a0Alcantra\u00a0<\/strong>in the former Don Pedro in Woodstock.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Carne Bistro\u00a0has opened on Kloof Street<\/strong><\/a>, where Caffe Milano was, and another Carne has opened in Wynberg.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Mange Tout at Mont Rochelle in Franschhoek has re-opened and has been renamed\u00a0Miko<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Jackie Cameron has left Hartford House, and opens the\u00a0Jackie Cameron School of Food and Wine<\/strong>\u00a0in Hilton in January.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0<\/span>\u00a0La Colombe<\/strong>\u00a0has moved out of Constantia Uitsig, and has re-opened at Silvermist in Hout Bay.<\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Chef PJ Vadas<\/strong>\u00a0has left Camphors at Vergelegen, to open his own \u00a0restaurant and brewery\u00a0The Hog House<\/strong>\u00a0in Cape Town. \u00a0The brewery will operate from Ndabeni, near Merrypak.<\/p>\n

*\u00a0\u00a0 Rocca<\/strong>\u00a0in the Cape Quarter has been sold, and has changed its name to\u00a0Celtic Cove.<\/strong><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0La Parada<\/strong>\u00a0is opening in part of the former Constantia Nek restaurant building<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Umi<\/strong>\u00a0restaurant in Camps Bay has been halved in size, and\u00a0La Belle Caf\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0has opened in the other half. \u00a0It is a sister restaurant to the one based in The Alphen, also being part of the Kovensky Group.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 &Union has changed ownership, having been bought by Jason Lilley of Jason\u2019s, and its name to\u00a0WeinHaus & Biergarten<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Jamie\u2019s Italian<\/strong>\u00a0is opening in the V&A Waterfront, when the Sevruga lease expires, Chef Jamie Oliver already having restaurants in Canada, Australia, Dubai, Ireland, Hong Kong, Russia, Singapore, and Turkey.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Daily Deli in Tamboerskloof has changed owners, and changed its name to The\u00a0Blue Caf\u00e9.<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Burgundy<\/strong>\u00a0in Hermanus has been sold to Willem and Estie Steyn, who in turn have sold\u00a0<\/span>Savannah<\/strong>. \u00a0They also own @Food and Wine in Hermanus.<\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Ryan\u2019s Kitchen<\/strong>\u00a0has re-opened at the former Pistachio Bistro<\/span><\/strong><\/a> (now closed down) in Place Vendome in Franschhoek.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Khuselo Mputa<\/strong>\u00a0has left Aubergine, and now is at Grande Provence as Sommelier and Restaurant Manager.<\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Xolani Mancotywa<\/strong>\u00a0joined La Residence as Sommelier and Beverage Manager, but has already left again, heading for the Maldives.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef\u00a0<\/span>Michael Cooke<\/strong>\u00a0from La Colombe has joined Camphors at Vergelegen as Executive Chef, taking over from PJ Vadas.<\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef\u00a0Gary Richardson<\/strong>\u00a0has left Stables at Vergelegen, opening his own restaurant in Harfield Village in November.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Restaurant Manager\u00a0Jason van Heerden<\/strong>\u00a0has left Stables at Vergelegen, returning to Brisbane. \u00a0Marvin Seekoei is the new Manager.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef\u00a0Stefan Danz<\/strong>\u00a0of Babylonstoren has joined Stables at Vergelegen as Executive Chef<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The management of Tokara has taken over\u00a0Tokara DeliCATessen, <\/strong>renamed TOKARA Deli.<\/strong> \u00a0Open from Tuesday – Sunday for breakfast and lunch, it will open on Friday and Saturday evening for pizzas,burgers, and craft beer from 16 January.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Aroma Caf\u00e9 has opened on Loop Street.<\/p>\n

*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Maison\u00a0has opened a Deli offering Tapas dishes<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0to pair with its winetasting in October.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Ashley Moss<\/strong>\u00a0is the new Head Chef at The Greenhouse.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0The Salmon Bar<\/strong>\u00a0in Franschhoek has been sold again, to a very friendly David MacGinty.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Chef Christiaan Campbell<\/strong>\u00a0of Delaire Graff has\u00a0moved to Boschendal<\/strong><\/a>. \u00a0 His replacement is Michael Dig, a chef who worked with Chef Christiaan.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Chef Brad Ball<\/strong>\u00a0of Bistro Sixteen82 has left, moving to\u00a0Pedlars on the Bend.<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Kelly Kilpin is the new chef.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Belsol<\/strong>\u00a0Portuguese restaurant has opened in Camps Bay, where Luigi\u2019s used to be (but still has all the Luigi branding outside the restaurant)<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Truffle<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0has opened where Leaf, Portofino, and The Showroom used to be, and changed chefs within 10 days of opening, Chef Nick Blazic having left, and Chef Ryan Brown has taken over!<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Executive Club at the Westin Cape Town has changed its name to\u00a0On 19. \u00a0Chris Maree\u00a0<\/strong>is the new chef, previously at the Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Oliver Cattermole has left Mondiall and joined\u00a0the Leeu Collection<\/strong><\/a>. Chef Lauren Case is now running the Mondiall kitchen. Mondiall Sous Chef Jodey Carlous has also left, joining the Zingara Group.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Chef Marile van Niekerk<\/strong>\u00a0has left Craft Wheat & Hops to join LUST Bakery & Bistro at Vrede en Lust as Head Chef.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Amy and Marc\u00a0Botes<\/strong>\u00a0have taken over Mozzarella Bar from Giorgio Nava on\u00a0Kloof\u00a0Street, and\u00a0renamed it Chalk & Cork (aka as Chalk & Cheek!)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Chef Kerry Kilpin<\/strong>\u00a0has been appointed as Head Chef and Restaurant Manager of\u00a0Bistro Sixteen82<\/strong>, from 3 November onward. \u00a0She was previously at La Colombe and The Food Barn.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Chris Papayannes,<\/strong>\u00a0previous Restaurant Manager and Sommelier at The Restaurant at Newton Johnson, has been appointed as Executive Sous Chef at Zevenwacht.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Chef Charl Coetzee<\/strong>\u00a0has joined Eight at Spier.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Taste<\/strong>\u00a0restaurant has moved to Bright Street in Somerset West.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Chef Germaine Esau<\/strong>\u00a0has moved from Delaire Graff to Makaron at Majeka House.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Charcutier Steve Jeffery\u00a0<\/strong>is\u00a0running the Blaauwklippen Bistro.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Notorious\u00a0Chef Conrad Gallagher<\/strong>, who left a trail of debt when he last operated in Cape Town, is re-opening\u00a0Caf\u00e9 Chic<\/strong>\u00a0in Breda Street in December!<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 All\u00e9e Bleue Bistro has appointed Beau du Toit<\/strong> as new chef.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Bertus Basson at Spice Route<\/strong> will open as a family restaurant on the wine estate in January, taking over the Spice Route restaurant.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Overture<\/strong> is now run by Allistaire Lawrence, previously from Roots. \u00a0That should cost the restaurants its Top 10 status next year. \u00a0Eat Out<\/strong> says that Chef Bertus Basson will ‘continue to be there as often as possible’.<\/em><\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Ryan Brand<\/strong> has left The Banting Kitchen, and now is Executive Chef for the Kauai Group.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Peregrine Farmstall restaurant<\/strong> has re-opened after an extensive rebuild after a fire earlier this year.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Kauai has opened its 150th outlet<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, in the V&A Waterfront. \u00a0Its current outlet in the V&A will close in February.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Bedouin Deli<\/strong> has moved from Woodstock to the Cape Quarter.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Co-shareholders and founders Patrick and Andrea Moreau leave Cassis<\/strong><\/span><\/a> on 20 December.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Bootlegger Coffee Company<\/strong> has taken over the space of Voila, ex Salt, opposite the Ambassador Hotel in Bantry Bay.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Haarlem & Hope<\/strong><\/span><\/a> has changed its name to The Company’s Garden Restaurant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 McDonald’s<\/strong> has opened on Main Road in Sea Point.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Ryan Cole<\/strong> from Pierneef\u00a0\u00e0 La Motte is moving to The Test Kitchen at the end of January.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Plant<\/strong>\u00a0Caf\u00e9\u00a0has moved from Bo-Kaap to Loop Street.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Johann’s Dining Room<\/strong> has opened at Orphanage Cocktail Emporium, with Chef Johann Breedt, formerly from The Taj, Shimmy Beach Club, and The Westin.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Brent Kuttschreuter’s ‘GM Consultant Contract<\/em>‘ at Mondiall<\/strong> has ended.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Le Quartier Fran\u00e7ais’<\/strong> association with Relais & Chateaux has ended.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Ultimate Braai Master Champions for 2014, Yusuf Sujee and Stephen Mandos, have taken over as chefs at La Vierge<\/strong> in Hermanus.<\/p>\n

Temporary restaurant closures<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Boschendal<\/strong>\u00a0Farm Werf Restaurant<\/strong> will open at the end of February. \u00a0The new Farm Shop & Deli is open, and serving meals seven days a week. \u00a0The Buffet has been moved to the building next to the Tasting Room, on the opposite side of the estate.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0La Colombe<\/strong>: has re-opened.<\/p>\n
