* \u00a0 Cape Wine 2015 will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 15 – 17 September next year, and is organised by Wines of South Africa (WOSA). DHL Express will be the first-time sponsor. \u00a0WOSA CEO Siobhan Thompson said: ‘Delegates will have the opportunity to experience the range and depth of South Africa’s vinous dexterity, strengthened by new approaches to wine-growing and winemaking that have resulted in bold, unique and unmistakably local wines. As Tim Atkin MW remarked in his South Africa 2014 Special Report: ‘There\u2019s never been a better time to write about, taste or buy South African wine<\/em>.’ \u00a0 Thompson said that the DHL sponsorship will take the wine showcase to a new level.\u00a0(received via media release from De Kock Communications)<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Peter\u00a0Cheales of Hello Peter has sold his business<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0of 14 years to an unnamed consortium of businessmen, he wrote in a letter to past users of his service, a South African type of Sweet and Sour Service Awards. \u00a0In his letter he wrote:\u00a0‘<\/em>It\u2019s time for fresh blood, more energy, and new life. I will continue to watch from the sidelines. The site will always be a part of me’. \u00a0<\/em>Cheales\u00a0will write books and speak at conferences.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Raats\u00a0Family Wines’ winemaker\u00a0Bruwer\u00a0Raats\u00a0received the accolade of\u00a0<\/span>‘most exciting and forward-thinking winemaker in\"\"Stellenbosch<\/em>‘ by Neal Martin, in his 2014 vintage review in Robert Parker’s<\/span>\u00a0The Wine Advocate<\/strong>. \u00a0Martin added the following about\u00a0Bruwer: ‘<\/span>At times I wonder whether he should be cloned and grafted onto other Stellenbosch\u00a0winemakers\u00a0if only to prevent them from making\u00a0soupy, over-ripe, alcoholic wines that compound the region’s image problem. \u00a0The 2012 MR de\u00a0Compostella\u00a0was a riveting example of what this region can achieve and frankly put a swath of Stellenbosch wines into sharp relief’<\/em>. \u00a0Five of the\u00a0Raats\u00a0wines received 90 or more points, the MR de\u00a0Compostella\u00a0scoring 96 points. \u00a0Martin concluded that\u00a0Bruwer\u00a0is ‘<\/span>the man who makes some of South Africa\u2019s finest wines’. \u00a0<\/em>He praised our country’s wine industry too, describing its as the ‘<\/span>most dynamic and exciting New World country at the moment’.<\/em><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0South Africa Deputy Minister of Tourism\u00a0Tokozile\u00a0Xasa\u00a0attended\u00a0an Indian Ocean Rim Ministerial Meeting<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>with the Minister of Tourism of Madagascar and the Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture last week. \u00a0\u00a0Seychelles Minister\u00a0Alain St.Ange said:\u00a0‘We need to meet to work out the way forward. We need to consolidate the tourism industry of the Indian Ocean Region, and this we can only achieve when we are all working together for our region<\/em>‘.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Stellenbosch Street\u00a0Soirees\u00a0are back, the first taking place tomorrow (26 November) from\u00a018h00\u00a0–\u00a020h00\u00a0at the cost of\u00a0R50. \u00a0Wine are\u00a0available to taste, as are\u00a0‘gourmet bites<\/em>‘, and there will be live music by Gerald Clark. \u00a0The location has moved to\u00a0Drostdy\u00a0Street. \u00a0The\u00a0Soirees\u00a0are held every month (26 November, 10 December, 14 January, 11 and 25 February, and 11 and 25 March). * \u00a0 A new wine holding company has been formed, called buybetterwine.com (BBW), a merger of Top 100 SA Wines, and Weekend Wines. \u00a0The services of the two companies will continue, and additional services will be designing private cellars, as well as ‘wine and dine adventures’.<\/em>\u00a0Further services will be added next year.
