* \u00a0 A heavy-weight World Symposium to ‘Cultivating Sustainable and Peaceful Communities and Nations through Tourism, Culture and Sports<\/em><\/strong> will be held in Johannesburg from 16 – 19 February next year, and is in honour of the\u00a0late Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Ghandi, and Martin Luther King Jnr. \u00a0It has been endorsed by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and will be held at Emporers Palace. \u00a0Keynote speakers include the Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization Dr Taleb Rifai, Minister of Tourism Derek Hanekom, \u00a0Minister of Tourism of the Seychelles Alain St. Ange, and various other heads of international tourism bodies. * \u00a0 From October next year \u00a0Turkish Airlines will offer direct flights between Cape Town and Istanbul.<\/strong><\/span> \u00a0<\/strong><\/a>This will double the capacity between the two countries.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Winemakers Paul Cluver and Bruce Jack have collaborated in a new cider called Cluver & Jack<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, made at Paul Cluver Winery in Elgin, using a method devised by the Jack family, which was the first to plant cider apple trees in South Africa. \u00a0Jack said about cider: ‘Real cider can only be made from sensitively-farmed, freshly-pressed, unadulterated apple juice, which becomes a pure expression of our special corner of the universe. \u00a0W<\/span>hen these bottles go out into the world, they take with them something of the beauty, intrigue, mythology and charm of this land<\/em>‘. \u00a0Granny Smith apples ‘and other secret varieties<\/em>‘ are used in the making of the cider.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 For First Thursday this week, Luvey ‘n Rose is focuing on screenprints from the Graphic Club<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, including work by illustrator, graphic novelist, and artist Su Opperman, and by Fred Schimmel. \u00a0The gallery will be open until 21h00 on Thursday.<\/p>\n
