* \u00a0 British wine writer Tim Atkin writes that our country’s white blends are the best<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, the release of the Chenin Blanc-dominant Cartology Alheit 2011 being the motivation for his praise, being a new benchmark for South African whites. \u00a0Our country has ‘some of the most exciting and best value wines in the New World<\/em>‘, he wrote.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 \u00a0A new free App Sideways (likely to have been named after the famous movie set in Napa Valley) has been launched, designed by iKineo, as a guide to the Winelands. ‘Each wine farm\u2019s profile page in the app, brims with useful information, everything from opening times, to available wines and even GPS co-ordinates that seamlessly links to your smart phone\u2019s own navigation software’. \u00a0 <\/em>The App has information about wine farms and its restaurants, but also about running and cycling trails, and picnic spots. \u00a0‘Checking in’ at Sideways accumulates points, offering discounts. * \u00a0 The ‘Real Meal Revolution<\/em>‘ book is more than a year old, and now the three co-authors are launching the ‘world’s first digital Beginners Banting Course’<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a>, with start dates of 26 January and 2 February, running over 5 weeks, at four hours per week and a cost of R2950. \u00a0Professor Tim Noakes will do lectures, Sally-Ann Creed will talk about nutritional therapy, \u00a0and opinionated Chef Jonno Proudfoot will do cooking demos!<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Uber is making Christmas shopping easier for Capetonians, with its UberSleigh service offered in conjunction with Kalahari.com.
