* \u00a0 Mayor Patricia de Lille has launched a Beach Safety campaign<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, handing out goody bags containing sunscreen, a frisbee, and beach safety pamphlets at Clifton 4th Beach, Camps Bay, Silwerstroom, Gordon’s Bay, Muizenberg, and Monwabisi. \u00a0The campaign includes a ‘I love my Beach’<\/em> promotion, aimed at keeping Cape Town’s 83 beaches clean, safe and free of alcohol. \u00a0The City has budgeted an additional R 22 million to keep the beaches, scenic routes, and business areas clean until February.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Minister of Tourism is inviting tourism players to apply for a three-year position as\u00a0Non-Executive directors on the board of SA Tourism<\/strong><\/span><\/a>. \u00a0 Entries close on ‘23 January 2014′<\/em> (sic).<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Wall Street Journal<\/strong> has slated South African Pinotage as a wine variety to avoid buying as a gift<\/strong><\/span><\/a> over the festive season! \u00a0Lettie Teague writes: ‘I have my own list of such wines<\/em> (‘bad holiday bottle’<\/em>), and it includes anything that comes in a blue bottle, is targeted specifically to women (e.g., has\u00a0dress\u00a0in its name) or is produced from the South African grape Pinotage<\/em>‘!<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Airline food is the differentiator for many airlines<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, especially in Business and First Class, and is worth \u20ac10 billion. Michelin star and other top-level chefs are appointed to design menus, and top champagne brands are offered to ‘very demanding<\/em>‘ passengers. \u00a0Singapore Airlines serves\u00a0‘the world\u2019s two most prestigious champagnes: Dom Perignon and Krug Grande Cuvee<\/em>‘, its champagne expenditure being \u20ac18 million alone. \u00a0The airline menu design is constrained, in that raw fish, cabbage, and beans are not used. \u00a0Sensitivities to pork and rabbit have to be taken into consideration. \u00a0Food tastes differently at 30000 feet altitude, which needs to be addressed via flavour enhancers. \u00a0Reheating dishes in the sky can also affect the meals.<\/p>\n
