\"Bree<\/a>Bree Street will be closed for five hours tomorrow, to host the 2015 Open Streets Festival, making the street vehicle-free, and inviting Capetonians and visitors to take over Cape Town’s popular food street<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, to enjoy a host of activities for free.<\/p>\n

Open to the public from 9h00 until 14h00 on Sunday, the street will allow one to walk, cycle, skate, and connect with others, and enjoy activities such as a\u00a0bike bus organised by\u00a0<\/span>Bicycle Cape Town<\/a>, a skating obstacle course by\u00a0<\/span>Africa Skate<\/a>\u00a0and other skating activities by the\u00a0<\/span>National Skate Collective<\/a>; a kiddie\u2019s corner by\u00a0<\/span>Elemental Kids<\/a>,\u00a0and a number of activities organised by\u00a0<\/span>100in1 Day Cape Town<\/a>. \u00a0There will be yoga and meditation on the street. \u00a0There will be chess players, dancers, musicians, and activists. \u00a0The activities are intended to appeal to Capetonians from all parts of the city.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many restaurants and shops will be open, unusual as most are closed on a Sunday. \u00a0<\/span>Bocca<\/a>,<\/strong><\/span> on the corner of Wale and Bree Street, has announced that it is closed today to allow its staff to serve the Open Street Festival-goers to enjoy their Italian-inspired pizzas and other sharing dishes. La Parada<\/strong><\/span><\/a> is sure to be open too. \u00a0 Other retailers and restaurants which will be opening their doors on Bree Street and around the corners are\u00a0<\/span>Barnet Fair, Birds, Cafe Frank, Wild Olive, Cape Heritage Hotel, \u00a0Dahon, God’s Army, Bookstore, Hard Pressed Cafe, Honest Chocolate<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, Iracema Boutique, Issi on Bree, Keenwa Restaurant, Medsport, Odyssey, Orinoco<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, Paul Smith, Puma, Rivets & Rockets, Sarah Ord Interiors, Skyhook, South African Market (SAM), Vida e Caffe, Saben Spectacle Co, Borage Bistro<\/a>,<\/strong><\/span> Kauai, Shalom Kids Nursery & Aftercare, Clarke’s, Friends of Design Academy, I Love My Laundry, Orphanage,<\/strong><\/span><\/a> Robert Sherwood Design, and Thornton Whites.<\/p>\n

Open Streets has been inspired by ‘Ciclovia’<\/em> in Bogota in Colombia, where 120 km of the city streets are closed off every Sunday for its residents to enjoy the city’s streets, to play games, to meet up with friends, and to enjoy the activities offered. \u00a0It has grown to 200 Open Street festivals globally, intended to communicate that the city streets are not just for vehicles!<\/p>\n

In March an\u00a0<\/span>Open Streets day is planned for Langa.<\/span><\/p>\n
