* \u00a0 Kfm<\/strong> news reports that the fire caused by lightning in Cape Point Nature Reserve yesterday has flared up again, threatening that area.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Distell is launching Nederburg Heritage Heroes in the UK<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, including The Motocycle (sic) Marvel, The Brew Master, The Young Airhawk, The Anchorman, and The Beautiful Lady. \u00a0The wine range is being targeted at fine-dining restaurants.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The wine industry is committing to exporting more of our wines in bottles<\/strong><\/span><\/a> rather than in bulk. \u00a0The motivation is to enhance our country’s wine image, to improve export revenue, and to create more jobs locally, and follows an agreement reached between the European Union and Southern African Development Community. From 2016 our country’s duty-free wine quota increases to 110 million liters, more than double the current quota. \u00a0About three-quarters of our country’s wines is exported to European Union countries. \u00a0 Last year about 60% of local wine was shipped in bulk to the European Union.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 W<\/span><\/strong>ine-drinking is moving to drinkability<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, writes a Canadian columnist. \u00a0He defines ‘drinkability’<\/em> as freshness and lightness. \u00a0He selected Bellingham Big Oak Red Blend 2013 (the only South African wine) as one of four wines that represents drinkability.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0\u2308spasie\u2309 is hosting another series of underground dinners<\/strong><\/span><\/a> in its venue on Church Street in Bo-Kaap. Tonight and tomorrow Chef Jaco Redelinghuys of Yoco Eatery in Durbanville will do the cooking. \u00a0On 19 and 20 March Kirby Auret and Wynand van Rooyen will prepare the dinner. \u00a0On 26 and 27 March Chef Nicholas Charalambous will be on duty.
