\"The<\/a>Franschhoek has joined The D\u00e9lice Network of Good Food Cities of the World, an\u00a0international network of cities promoting the benefits of culinary excellence and good food, in partnership with the Cape Winelands District Municipality.<\/p>\n

The D\u00e9lice Network has 21 member cities, including Barcelona, Madrid, Montreal, Lausanne, Milan, Copenhagen, Chicago, Gothenburg, Birmingham, Helsinki, and Brussels. It is the only city in the Southern Hemisphere to be a member of the Network. \u00a0The Network was founded in Lyon.<\/p>\n

The President of The\u00a0D\u00e9lice Network, Jean-Michel Daclin, said: ‘Gastronomy is an integral part of the heritage of our cities.\u00a0 It expresses a way of living, and is a key tool for our cities in terms of taste education, living quality and promotion of tourism.\u00a0 Our goal is to join together forces, talents and ideas, to exchange on the theme of gastronomy and good food’.<\/em><\/p>\n

Membership criteria for the Network are ‘an outstanding gastronomic culture, actions for citizens\u2019 taste education and good food consciousness, the use of gastronomy as a tool for tourism and promotion of the local area\u2019s food diversity’, <\/em>according to the media release received.<\/p>\n

The Franschhoek Wine Valley tourism promotion body has become known for hosting excellent events, \u00a0including the\u00a0Franschhoek Bastille Festival, The Franschhoek Cap Classique & Champagne Festival, and Cook Franschhoek. \u00a0\u00a0The Franschhoek Artisan Food Route exposes visitors to the valley’s olives and olive oils, cheeses, salmon trout, charcuterie, and artisanal breads.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0D\u00e9lice Network will support Franschhoek’s promotion of its region’s Food Tourism. \u00a0Franschhoek Wine Valley CEO\u00a0Jenny Prinsloo said it is an honour to join the Network. \u2018Home to some the most celebrated chefs our country has to offer, Franschhoek has earned its title over several years as South Africa\u2019s Culinary Capital’, <\/em>she said.<\/p>\n

Many question Franschhoek’s claim that it is still the Culinary Capital of our country, given that it only has one restaurant on the Eat Out<\/strong> Top 10 restaurant list. Stellenbosch undoubtedly now is the Culinary Capital, with four restaurants on the prestigious restaurant list<\/strong><\/span><\/a>! \u00a0At least one can salute Franschhoek for its proactiveness in joining the Network.<\/p>\n
