* \u00a0 The price of petrol increases by 47 cents a liter<\/strong><\/span><\/a> at midnight today, mainly due to the increase in the price of crude oil.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 More than 1000 delegates attending the World Economic Forum Africa in Cape Town from tomorrow until Friday will be motivated to operate from Cape Town and the Western Cape, in a campaign driven by Wesgro, the Western Cape trade, investment, and tourism promotion agency. Wesgro CEO Tim Harris said: ‘Cape Town is seen as the leading destination for companies to think about their Africa strategies. The WEF brings leading global thinkers together and gives us a chance to show that\u00a0Cape Town is the most liveable city on the continent, that the Western Cape is an ideal place for executives to live work and play, and that our region is the perfect springboard into the rest of Africa<\/em>‘. * \u00a0Air China has delayed the launch of its direct flights<\/strong><\/span><\/a> between Beijing and Johannesburg to the end of October, the second delay since March. The xenophobic attacks and new biometric and children unabridged birth certificate visa requirements have been cited as the reasons for the delay.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Africa is becoming ‘one of the most promising regions for tourism<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a>‘, said Elcia Grandcourt of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, when she addressed a discussion with 13 Tourism Ministers from Africa at Indaba last month. \u00a0She estimated a total of 85 million arrivals on the continent by 2020, but cautioned that to achieve this, ‘Africa must work with Africa’! \u00a0<\/em>South African Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom said the continent had seen ‘unprecedented growth’,<\/em> but has been challenged by the fear of tourists contracting Ebola. Univisas, allowing travel between different countries with one visa, were seen to be one way to attract tourists to Africa.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Whisky expert ‘Mr Whisky’ Pierre Meintjies will be telling whisky tales and doing tastings on behalf of brands Bunnahabhain, Scottish Leader and Black Bottle, at the Whisky Live Showroom, to be held at The Lookout in the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town from 18 to 20 June.
