* \u00a0 The EFF is calling for 40 Cape Town suburbs and Western Cape towns to be renamed,<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>to remove references to our ‘colonial<\/em>‘ past and to go back to the region’s African and Khoi San origins. Camps Bay, Worcester, Hermanus, Plettenberg Bay, Stellenbosch, and George are included on the suggested renaming list.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The City of Cape Town has approved the sale of a piece of land called ‘<\/strong><\/span><\/a>Clifton Precinct<\/strong><\/span><\/a>‘, <\/em>currently housing garages used by bungalow owners, a restaurant, and sport grounds, despite resistance from Clifton residents. The City is calling for a bidder to build a parking garage, a retail outlet, and ‘boutique line shops’<\/em>! Opposition parties in the City Council are also up in arms about the proposed sale.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The arrogance of the Department of Home Affairs knows no bounds in terms of its Immigration Regulations, it now blaming the tourism industry<\/strong><\/span><\/a> for declining tourism numbers, ‘having deliberately caused confusion about the new visa regulations<\/em>‘! \u00a0The Department’s Mayihlome Tshwete said: ‘If there is any sabotage in tourism it’s being done by the very same people who claim to be protecting it. Instead of taking the information that we have given them and educating their constituencies, they\u2019re deliberately trying to cause confusion<\/em>‘.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 TV star Ellen DeGeneres and her partner Portia de Rossi were spotted in Cape Town<\/strong><\/span><\/a> last week, at the Orphanage Cocktail Emporium, \u00a0and at The Food Barn. They also holidayed in the Kruger Park.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chefs who Share will be held for the third time this year, and it is looking to raise monies via the Veggie Box Initiative, which was launched in 2013. A donation of R1000 per box can already be made online, the monies raised to provide nutritious food to children, to educate children about healthy eating, and to assist in setting up sustainable vegetable gardens in townships. Chefs participating in ‘Chefs who Share – the ART of Giving’ visit schools and other charitable facilities to show them how to make\u00a0nutritional meals from the vegetable boxes.
