\"image\"<\/a>Winter is almost over, and we are delighted to report that few restaurants have closed down in the past few cold months. By the same token, few new restaurants have opened. Heartbreaking was the fire which closed down The Stack one week after it opened last month in Leinster Hall in Gardens. \u00a0We update information about newly opened and closed restaurants continuously.<\/p>\n

Restaurant Openings<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0 De Warenmarkt<\/strong><\/span><\/a> has opened in Stellenbosch, a mix of market, deli, bar,\u00a0and pop-up restaurant (photograph)<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Open Door<\/strong><\/a> has opened at\u00a0Constantia Uitsig, the third restaurant to be opened by\u00a0Neil Grant and his business partner Barry Engelbrecht (of Burrata<\/strong><\/a> and Bocca<\/strong><\/a>), previously the\u00a0River Caf\u00e9.<\/strong><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Michael Townsend of the Harbour House Group is planning to open two new restaurants on the Muizenberg beachfront: a 160-seater Live Bait<\/strong>, and Howlin\u2019 Wolf,<\/strong> a burger and beer quick service restaurant.<\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Bacon on Bree<\/strong>\u00a0has opened at 217 Bree Street, a bacon-inspired restaurant by charcuterier Richard Bosman and <\/span>his wife Justine Seymour.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Culture Club<\/strong>\u00a0Cheese<\/strong> and wine shop has opened at 215 Bree Street, its owner previously having been the GM of La Fromagerie on Marylebone High Street in London!<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Baked in the Wood<\/strong>\u00a0is to open on Bree Street, offering craft beer and tapas, owned by Zahir Mohamed of Baked Bistro<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Blacksmith\u2019s Kitchen<\/strong>\u00a0has opened in Paarl.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Boschendal<\/strong>\u00a0Farm Werf Restaurant<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0has opened<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Homespun<\/strong> has opened in Table View.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Inside and You\u2019re Out Burgers<\/strong> has opened in the Cape Town city centre.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Max Bagels<\/strong> has opened on Bree Street.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 MasterChef SA Season 3 winner Roxi Wardman<\/strong> is opening Spoonful Eatery in Windermere Centre in Durban.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Cheyne Morrisby is to open Lucky Boa and Asian Shake Bar<\/strong> in Hout Bay.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Loaves on Long<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0has opened on Long Street.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Imibala Restaurant<\/strong><\/a> has opened on Bright Street in Somerset West, with Chef Nicole Dupper at the helm.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef PJ Vadas is to open The<\/strong>\u00a0Hog House on The Werf<\/strong><\/a> craft Bakery and Caf\u00e9 at Spier<\/strong> in October.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Luke Dale-Roberts is to open Naturalis<\/strong>, an \u2018incubation hub\u2019<\/em> and venue for occasional dinners and events.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Ou Meul Bakery<\/strong> has opened in Welgemoed.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Vida e Caffe is opening Torrador<\/strong> at Cape Gate.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Hudsons<\/strong>\u00a0has opened a burger restaurant in Stellenbosch.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 El Burro Taqueria<\/strong> has opened on the corner of New Union and Kloofnek Road in Tamboerskloof, taking the space of Peter’s House plus more.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Del Mar<\/strong> Mexican restaurant has opened in Camps Bay, with Chef Leopoldo Moreno<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Melissa’s<\/strong> is opening in Franschhoek.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Charango Grill & Bar<\/strong>\u00a0Peruvian restaurant has\u00a0opened on Bree Street.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Caf\u00e9 Royale <\/b>has\u00a0<\/b>opened in the Cape Royale Luxury Hotel<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Reverie Social Table<\/strong> opens in Observatory in October.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The restaurant on Top of The Ritz<\/strong> has closed down.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Mano A Mano<\/strong> has closed down.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Thornton Wines Gastro Bar<\/strong> has closed down.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Ile de Pain<\/strong> on Thesen Island in Knysna has burnt down.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Grill Room<\/strong> in Franschhoek has closed down on the main road, to make way for new developments. It is said to be re-opening in the former Allora building.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Banting Kitchen<\/strong> at Cape Royale Luxury Hotel has closed down.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Stall<\/strong> in Franschhoek has closed down.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The new The\u00a0Stack<\/strong> of\u00a0Nigel Pace and Sarah Ord burnt down one week after opening in the former Leinster Hall.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Morgenster<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is still working on its new Caf\u00e9, Deli, and accommodation.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Pesce Azzurro<\/strong> has opened in\u00a0the former Don Pedro in Woodstock.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0La Parada<\/strong>\u00a0and Harbour House<\/strong> are opening in the former Constantia Nek restaurant building.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Villa Mia<\/strong> has opened in the Cape Quarter.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Vicky Cristina\u2019s<\/strong> tapas bar y restaurante espanol has opened in Camps Bay, where Caf\u00e9 Sofia used to be.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The Lucky Fish on Long Street has been transformed into Tiger\u2019s Milk<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Jerry\u2019s Burgers<\/strong>\u00a0has opened where Mano A Mano operated in Park Road.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Creamery<\/strong> is expanding the size of its Newlands outlet and opening in Mouille Point.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Nineteen Sixty One Grill<\/strong> has opened where Salzburger Grill operated on St John\u2019s Road in Sea Point.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Rustica<\/strong> has opened at Cape Royale Luxury Hotel, where The Banting Kitchen operated.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Tribakery<\/strong> in Canal Walk has a new owner, and its name is to be changed.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Jason Whitehead has\u00a0sold Fr\u00e8re\u2019s Bistro<\/strong>\u00a0to new owner Barry Owen, continuing to operate with the existing\u00a0staff, and retaining its\u00a0name. \u00a0Chef Jason will offer a Restaurant Consulting\u00a0service.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Le Quartier Fran\u00e7ais and its The Tasting Room have been sold to The Leeu Collection<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Salmon Bar<\/strong> is looking for new premises in Franschhoek.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Belsol<\/strong> Portuguese restaurant has closed down in Camps Bay. \u00a0Next-door restaurant Ocean Blue is moving into the Belsol space. \u00a0A steak house is likely to move into the Ocean Blue space.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Deckhouse Crabshack<\/strong> has opened on Kloof Street, where Jackal & Hyde used to be.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Theo’s<\/strong> in Mouille Point has sold, and will be taken over by\u00a0Hussar Grill<\/strong>\u00a0at the end of August.<\/p>\n

Chef and Restaurant staff changes<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Constantijn Hahndiek<\/strong> from OSA Restaurant at Fairmont Zimbali has moved to Hartford House.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0All\u00e9e Bleue Bistro has appointed\u00a0Beau du Toit<\/strong>\u00a0as chef.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Chris Papayannes<\/strong> has joined Chalk & Cork.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Adrian Boll<\/strong> is the new Chef at Wild Peacock.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Pastry Chef Christine de Villiers<\/strong> from Le Quartier Fran\u00e7ais has moved to Open Door.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Lee-Ann du Plessis<\/strong> has been appointed as Head Chef of Dornier Bodega Restaurant.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Adele Grewar<\/strong> has been appointed as Head Chef at Overture.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Vicky Gurovich<\/strong> has been appointed as Senior Sous Chef (Pastry) at Pierneef \u00e0 La Motte. She previously worked at the Belmond Mount Nelson.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Kevin Grobler <\/b>has joined Jan Restaurant in Nice<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, from Delaire Graff Restaurant.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Julia<\/b> Hattingh<\/b> has left Holden Manz, and is said to be opening her own restaurant in Cape Town. Bird Gernot<\/strong> has taken over her position.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Tinashe Nyamudoka\u00a0<\/strong>has been appointed as Beverage Manager and Sommelier at The Test Kitchen.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Joakim Blackadder<\/strong> is moving from Rust en Vrede to Hog House on the Werf at Spier as Sommelier, while Isabella\u00a0Immenkamp<\/strong> will move across from Jardine at Jordan as Front of House, both on 1 September.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Patrick Moreau<\/strong>, previous co-owner of Cassis, is opening Patachou Patisserie in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n
