*. \u00a0Durban has been given the go-ahead to bid for the 2022 Commonwealth Games<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, a potential boost of R11 billion and employment for 11500 forecast. The cost to host the event is estimated at R 6,4 billion. The announcement of the winning bid will be made on Wednesday, and is likely to be awarded to Durban, as the former competitor city Edmonton withdrew earlier this year.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Volkswagen has announced that it will invest R4,5 billion<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in the production of new models in its Uitenhage factory in the next two years, despite our country producing only less than 1% of the world’s vehicle production. Its production facility in Africa, offering a strategic location and sales potential, justifies the investment, said the company’s Thomas Sch\u00e4fer, MD of Volkswagen Group South Africa.<\/p>\n

*. \u00a0The new visa regulations<\/a><\/strong><\/span> are not only affecting the tourism industry, but business with international links too, says Standard Bank \u00a0joint-CEO Ben Kruger.<\/p>\n

*. \u00a0The Western Cape government is offering two-day business strategy workshops in the next four months to 1000 entrepreneurs in the province, to enable them to grow their businesses. The workshops will be run by the a university of the Western Cape, and are sponsored by ABSA. Western Cape Minister of Economic Opportunities Alan Winde said that our province has the largest number of start-up businesses, and therefore the workshops are aimed at enhancing the businesses of entrepreneurs to encourage them to grow, and to employ more locals. *. \u00a0Creation must be the wine estate with the largest number of food and wine pairing options<\/a><\/strong><\/span>. Now it has added a Tapas Pairing, an eight-dish menu paired with seven Creation wines and one Whale Pod wine. The Hemel-en-Aarde\u00a0Valley winery caters for Banters, vegetarians, and for those that are gluten- and lactose-intolerant in their food requirements. They have also launched a three-course Pairing a menu, which will change weekly. Other Pairing options are a Cheese Pairing, a Charcuterie Pairing, a 10h00 Brunch Pairing (including oysters and crayfish!), a Gourmet Secret Pairing, the Paradoxical Chocolate Pairing, a non-alcoholic Tapas and Tea Pairing, and a Surprise Pairing for children!
