*. The price of petrol will decrease by 69 cents per liter<\/a><\/strong><\/span> at midnight this evening. The decrease is mainly due to the drop in the price of crude oil, which has resulted from an oversupply of Brent crude oil. The new petrol price contains an allocation of 4,6 cents per lite to fund a 9% increase in the salaries of pump attendants and cashiers.<\/p>\n

*. \u00a0Eskom has announced that its Koeberg Unit 2<\/a><\/strong><\/span> has gone into a refueling and maintenance mode as of yesterday, expected to continue for the next 100 days. The electricity supplier has requested that South Africans use electricity sparingly to prevent loadshedding, which the country has been spared for all of August!<\/p>\n

*. \u00a0The Department of Home Affairs has opened two new visa application centers in China<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, in Chengdu and in Guangzhou. This brings the total number of visa centers in China to four. Tourists from this country have to apply for their visas in person, biometric data needing to be captured.<\/p>\n

*. \u00a0Our country’s\u00a0four largest retail chains have shown tremendous growth<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, despite the tough times their customers are facing. Woolworths sales grew by 45% in the past year, but this figure includes non-food sales too. Shoprite sales grew by 11%, Spar sales grew by 9%, and Pick ‘n Pay by 6%. Shoprite sales at R114 billion far exceed those of the other three retail chains, being almost double of any of the other retailers.<\/p>\n

*. \u00a0A collaboration of four chefs will be catering for the Nederburg Auction next week. Chefs Chris Erasmus from Foliage, Neil Jewell from Bread & Wine, Fritz Schoon from Schoon de Companje, and Gustaaf Boshoff from Stir Foods have designed a menu to reflect the Auction theme of ‘Beyond Tomorrow’<\/em>.
