* \u00a0 The United Nations World Tourism Association (UNWTO) World Tourism Barometer reflects that international tourism grew by 4 % in the period January – June 2015. However, tourism in Africa declined by 6%<\/a><\/strong><\/span> (sub-Saharan Africa declined by 4%). The growth rate of tourism in Europe, Asia, the Pacific, and Middle East was highest at 5% in the same period.<\/p>\n

*. \u00a0The National Finalists for the SA Wine Tasting Championships have been announced as Ralph Reynolds, Anita Streicher-Nel, Joseph Dafana, Chris Groenewald, and Tawanda Marume. The members of Team South Africa will be announced next month, says organizer Jean-Vincent Ridon.<\/p>\n

*. \u00a0Multinationals who wish to make South Africa’s their headquarters for doing business in Africa are being disincentivized to set up in our country, and are instead preferring to use other African countries<\/a><\/strong><\/span> as their Africa base, due to the problems involved in obtaining visas and work permits in our country!<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The recently created UNWTO Gastronomy Network<\/a><\/strong><\/span> met at the 21st General Assembly of the United Nations, to discuss the objectives of the new initiative. The UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai said that Tourism and Gastronomy go hand in hand, being mutually reinforcing. Countries can now share information about culinary richness and gastronomic routes, and can interact with gastronomic tourism experts and exchange experiences. Gastronomy enhances the Tourism offering, which stimulates economic development.<\/p>\n

*. \u00a0The False Bay Nature Reserve has received a R1 million facelift<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, as part of a R28 million upgrade between Muizenberg and Gordon’s Bay, and funded by the City of Cape Town and the national government. Western Cape Minister of Tourism Alan Winde said that the environment-tourism hub, with braai, cycling, and picnic facilities, will create a tourist destination of the area.<\/p>\n
