\"image\"<\/a>The threatened protest by Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) against the concert by ‘Happy’ composer and singer Pharrell Williams for retailer Woolworths turned out to be a damp squib this evening, only 350 out of an estimated 40000 protesters arriving at GrandWest.<\/p>\n

The show had been sold out well in advance, tickets only having been available via Woolworths, but was overshadowed by the threatened protest by BDS<\/a><\/strong><\/span> outside the Goodwood entertainment venue, applying to the court for an increase from the protestor allowance of 150 to 16000, which was granted after GrandWest owner Sun International withdrew its application to have the protest banned. A total of 40000 protestors was expected, but concert organizer Big Concerts reported on Twitter earlier this evening that only 350 protestors had arrived, and were enjoying the music of the new American style spokesman for Woolworths outside GrandWest. Prior to the concert BDS announced that it would not tolerate any violence, hate speech, anti-Zionism<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, or any other forms of racism during the protest.<\/p>\n

The #PharrelProtest by BDS kicked off as soon as the retailer announced earlier this year that it had appointed the singer as its style spokesperson. BDS does not support Woolworths importing products from Israel, making up a minimal percentage of its produce sold. BDS is seeking to expand its action to create a consumer boycott of Woolworths, such as was achieved for Barclays Bank in the ‘Eighties, forcing the bank to leave the country.<\/p>\n

Surprising was to see so few Tweets of the concert on one’s Timeline, Big Concerts being one of only few Tweeters!<\/p>\n
