\"image\"<\/a>A survey conducted by STR Global Hospitality research firm<\/a><\/strong><\/span> has found that Cape Town is the fourth most expensive accommodation city on the African continent, and is more expensive than Johannesburg!<\/p>\n

Addis Ababa in Ethiopia was found to be the most expensive African city for accommodation, at an average of R3209 per room per night. This was followed by accommodation in Lagos, costing R2985. In third place is Nairobi (R2005), with Cape Town’s average accommodation cost fourth highest at R1687. Casablanca follows in fifth place, at R1465, followed by Cairo (R1437), Johannesburg (R1009), and Sharm El Sheikh (R982).<\/p>\n

The survey company explains the vast difference between hotel rates as the influence of supply and demand. Addis Ababa has a shortage of top quality accommodation, enhanced by the fact that the city is the seat of the African Union, and that the national airline Ethiopian Airways is showing strong growth. Johannesburg, by comparison, already has a good supply of five-star hotels.<\/p>\n

The survey found that the accommodation prices in Cape Town rose by 11% in the period June 2014 – June 2015, largely due to no new room stock having been added since the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Johannesburg room prices increased by the same percentage in the past year.<\/p>\n
