\"Platter<\/a>The Swartland is firmly on the top of the South African wine map, with its Mullineux and Leeu Family Wines announced as producer of the Red Wine of the Year, Dessert wine of the Year, winners of five 5-star wines, and Winery of the Year this evening. \u00a0It is the second time that they have won Winery of the Year.<\/p>\n

In receiving the eight awards Chris Mullineux thanked Platter’s, describing it as a respected publication. He said that he and his wife Andrea are so excited to be part of our country’s wine industry, and at a recent tasting event in London they were blown away to be in the same room as other great wines from our country! Speaking to them afterwards, about whether they could have achieved the same success in America or in Europe, they said that South Africa is the country they have chosen, and that they are grateful for all the success which they have achieved.<\/p>\n

A total of 83 wines, three brandies, and a new husk spirit received 5-star recognition (achieving scores of 95+ points out of 100) in the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel event. Stringent tasting was done blind of all 4,5 and 5 star evaluated wines by the Platter’s judging panel, and retasted with the help of additional independent tasters. A total of 640 wines went through the rigorous tasting process, resulting in the final \"image\"<\/a>83 5-star wines. A number of debutante 5-star wines was announced by Philip van Zyl: Anura, Beeselaar, Bloemendal, Constantia Glen, Eenzaamheid, GlenWood, Guardian Peak, Keermont, La Couronne, Leeuwenkuil, Luddite, MVH Signature Wine, Savage Wine, Vondeling, Vuurberg, and Waterkloof. \u00a0Spier won four 5-star wines, and David and Nadia Sadie and Newton Johnson Family Vineyards won three 5-star wine awards each.<\/p>\n

\"image\"<\/a>The colour ‘Cooling Seabreeze<\/em>‘ blue was chosen as the cover of the Platter’s Guide for the latest issue. A new red bottle sticker has been released for the 5-star wines. \u00a0Platter’s Publisher JP Rossouw \"image\"<\/a>shared that the tasting was done over a two month period, ‘a task of note’<\/em> he said. \u00a0Red ink to differentiate 4,5 and 5 star wines in the Guide has been reintroduced, he announced. They also have re-included restaurants and accommodation in the Platter’s Guide, which had been removed for space reasons last year. Space constraints were stretched this year, with the addition of 50 new producers, a sign of how healthy the wine industry is. A total of 8000 wines from 900 producers were evaluated for the Guide. The website is being updated, with a better search ability. A new iOS App has been developed, while that for Android will be launched soon.<\/p>\n
