\"Kitesurf\"<\/a>Tomorrow the Virgin Kitesurfing Armada commences at Dolphin Beach in Cape Town, instigated \u00a0by Sir Richard Branson, and runs until Sunday. The event is an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest parade of kitesurfers.<\/p>\n

Branson launched the event in the UK three years ago, and raised R1 million for charity through it. Two years ago he moved the event to Spain, and attracted 352 participants. Proceeds of the weekend event will go to charity too.<\/p>\n

Western Cape Minister of Economic Opportunities Alan Winde has encouraged Cape Town kitesurfears to participate in the event, saying: ‘This is excellent marketing for our region, which has developed an international reputation as an adventure sport destination. We are well-known in particular as a great place to learn to kitesurf, and I am sure this event will contribute to raising our profile further. During promotion for the initiative<\/em>, (Sir) Richard Branson describes Cape Town as an ‘iconic kitesurfing destination’, with the beautiful ‘Table Mountain as a backdrop’. I am looking forward to joining the celebrations when the Western Cape sets this new world record<\/em>‘.<\/p>\n
