\"image\"<\/a>Cape Town has received a boost from the illustrious Cond\u00e9 Nast Traveler<\/strong> magazine, which asked last week if the city is the new Gin Capital of the world<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, replacing London!<\/p>\n

The article was written with a focus on the Botanicals in our local gins, containing Fynbos and Buchu. These Botanicals give our local Gins a unique taste.<\/p>\n

The Gin trend is visible in Cape Town and the Winelands, with Mother’s Ruin on Bree Street and The Gin Bar off Wale Street being two dedicated gin bars. We were surprised to see a Gin trolley at the Restaurant at the Werf at Boschendal (main photograph), the first such trolley I have seen.<\/p>\n

Inverroche<\/strong> in the Southern Cape was the first local producer to produce a range of fynbos gins. The company is quoted as saying that ‘South African botanicals impart a unique taste.\u00a0The botanicals are part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, a community of vegetation that is home to more than 9,000 plant species that grow here and nowhere else on Eart<\/em>h. Inverroche has become a distillery producing about 10000 bottles of handcrafted gin a month, which are exported to 13 countries. \u00a0Inverroche crafts three different gins, using various species of fynbos, selected for their specific tastes and aromas, being The Amber gin (flavors of dune figs and wild rosemary), Classic gin (with soft flavors of aloe and buchu);\u00a0<\/em>and Verdant gin (soft aromatic floral finish).<\/p>\n

# \u00a0Blaauwklippen’s \"image\"<\/a>trio of Triple Three Hand-crafted Premium Gins<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, one of them being an African Botanicals flavour, with\u00a0liquorish, almonds, coriander seed, galangal root, herbs, cloves, cedar wood shavings, and pine flavours with delicate lemon peel, menthol, dark berries, moss, and earthiness. Flavours of forest-honey, maple, and almonds deliver sweet and toasty notes<\/p>\n

#. \u00a0Jorgensen Gin<\/strong>, \u00a0claiming to be the first locally-made premium gin, with Botanicals of juniper berries, and citrus zest.<\/p>\n

#. \u00a0The Woodstock Gin Company<\/strong>, created by Simon von Witt, with Inception being its first gin, its Fynbos recipe including Rooibos, Buchu, and Honey Bush.<\/p>\n

#. \u00a0Wilderer Fynbos Gin<\/strong> contains Botanicals of wild dagga, honey bush, Buchu, and devil’s claw.<\/p>\n

#. \u00a0Hope on Hopkins<\/strong>, with a classic London Dry Gin, Mediterranean Gin, and Salt River Gin. They use a range of Botanicals, including juniper, Angelica root, coriander, citrus, and rosemary. \u00a0Musgrave Gin has been created in collaboration with Roger Jorgensen.<\/p>\n

# \u00a0 KWV<\/strong> produces Cruxland gin.<\/p>\n

# \u00a0 Buitenverwachting<\/strong> produces Gin.<\/p>\n

# \u00a0 Not quite Cape Town, but Ginifer Gin<\/strong> is to be produced in Johannesburg soon.<\/p>\n
