The Sweet Service Award<\/strong> goes to The Maslow hotel in Johannesburg, and in particular to its Duty Manager Kasia Znatowicz, who assisted me in every way possible with the numerous problems I experienced at the hotel, including getting a (booked) room at 17h00 on arrival when I was told by the reception staff there was none available, getting a jacket back from laundry, getting a turndown, getting extra blankets, getting soap and a facecloth, in not having the carpet outside my room vacuumed early in the morning, and having managerial assistance at breakfast. She apologized for the problems <\/span>created by the hotel staff, and was gentle and friendly whenever she saw me in the foyer in the late afternoons. \u00a0She took action immediately each time we spoke. New Executive Chef Garth Johnson deserves a thanks too for checking if everything was to my satisfaction whenever he saw me in the hotel.<\/p>\n

\"image\"The Sour Service Award<\/strong> goes to Uber in Johannesburg. It started off well initially, but when being dropped off at DW Eleven-13 at the wrong location on 23 September, after having been told by the driver Giyani that he knew how to get to the restaurant entrance at the back of the Dunkeld West shopping centre, he became argumentative, and would not unlock the door for me to get out of the car. Uber has refunded this trip cost, after reporting the incident. The driver (Mailla Kenny) who picked me up from the restaurant on the same day had only be driving for two days, drove a car with a cracked windscreen, and his Google Maps app did not work, so he asked me (as a Capetonian who had last been near Sandton 26 years ago) to direct him. I switched on my Google Maps app, and had to direct him to the hotel at which I stayed! On the way to the Chefs who Share Gala Dinner on 24 September in the centre of Johannesburg, our driver Happy\u2019s Google Maps app also did not work, blaming Uber for this. He did not know where the Johannesburg City Hall was. \u00a0I had to once again use my Google Maps app to direct him to the venue!<\/p>\n
