\"villa-47-restaurant-daytime\"September has seen the opening of new restaurants Restaurant at Villa 47, La Parada and Harbour House at Constantia Nek, Wolfgat, Tiger\u2019s Milk Claremont, Tea in the Park, Open Wine Pair Shop and more, with a number of October openings imminent.<\/p>\n

We update information about newly opened and closed restaurants continuously, and welcome information.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Restaurant Openings<\/strong><\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

#    Villa 47 has opened on Bree Street, with Locanda restaurant<\/a><\/strong> on the ground floor.  Stuzzico Italian finger-food and bar has opened on the second floor<\/a>. <\/strong>Cool contemporary The Restaurant at Villa 47 on the third floor has opened<\/a><\/strong>, with an<\/span> Asian touch (photograph).<\/p>\n

#   Burger & Lobster<\/strong> has opened on Bree Street.<\/p>\n

#   The Stack has re-opened as a restaurant<\/a><\/strong> and members\u2019 club, after stunning renovations due to fire damage last year.<\/p>\n

#  Chef Luke Dale-Roberts\u2019 Shortmarket Club<\/a>,<\/strong> with Chef Wesley Randles, former Pot Luck Club Chef, has opened<\/p>\n

#    Chef Jan-Hendrik van der Westhuizen of one Michelin star JAN restaurant in Nice could open a restaurant in Cape Town!<\/a>  <\/strong>Chef Jan-Hendrik\u2019s first step is to host occasional dinners at his Higgovale home.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

#   Chef Luke Dale-Roberts opened Naturalis<\/strong> as an \u2018incubation hub\u2019<\/em>, for lunches, and a venue for occasional dinners and events. (NOTE<\/strong>: Naturalis is currently closed for lunches, and will re-open as a Wine Bar in the evenings when it has received its liquor licence).<\/p>\n

#   Melissa\u2019s<\/strong> has opened in Franschhoek, and is to open in Camps Bay.<\/p>\n

#   Charango Grill & Bar<\/strong> Peruvian restaurant is to become a franchise operation.<\/p>\n

#   Chef David Higgs\u2019<\/strong> 250-seater Marble restaurant in Rosebank<\/a> <\/strong>in Johannesburg<\/a><\/strong>, with business partner Gary Kyriakou, has finally opened! Chef Werner Sp\u00f6hr has joined them, as has Wikus Human, the Wine & Associate Manager.<\/p>\n

#   Tiger\u2019s Milk<\/strong> has opened in the SanClare Building in Claremont, in Century City, and is opening in Stellenbosch, in Bryanston in Johannesburg in September, and in Dubai.<\/p>\n

#   Mon Desir<\/b> has opened in Hermanus.<\/p>\n

#   Harbour House<\/strong> is to open in Johannesburg<\/p>\n

#   Hard Rock Caf\u00e9<\/strong> is said to open in the V&A Waterfront.<\/p>\n

#   Marigold Indian restaurant<\/a><\/strong> is to open in Franschhoek in December.<\/p>\n

#   ASH<\/strong> restaurant has opened inside Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants\/Publik, with Chef Ash Heeger and the former chef of Culture Club Cheese.<\/p>\n

#   Restaurant Jardine<\/strong> has opened in Stellenbosch, the kitchen headed up by Chef Brendan Thorncroft, owner Chef George Jardine alternating between the new restaurant and Jordan Restaurant.<\/p>\n

#   Jason\u2019s Bakery<\/strong> has opened a new branch Bardough\u2019s on Loop Street<\/p>\n

#   Jamie\u2019s Italian<\/strong> is to open in Cape Town next year.<\/p>\n

#   Dunkin\u2019 Donuts<\/strong> will open 250 outlets in our country, the first four in Cape Town.<\/p>\n

#   [spasie] Upstairs<\/a><\/strong> has opened on Bree Street, as an art gallery and cocktail bar.<\/p>\n

#   An interesting rumour is that Chefs Liam Tomlin and Ivor Jones are to jointly open a restaurant at The Silo hotel development<\/strong> in the V&A Waterfront. The Silo hotel is due to open in March 2017, and will have the Rooftop Restaurant, Rooftop Champagne Bar, and The Silo Caf\u00e9 as its offering. Chef Liam is consulting to The Silo.<\/p>\n

#   Baked Bistro<\/strong> has opened on Regent Road in Sea Point.<\/p>\n

#   La Colombe Executive Chef Scot Kirton and Pastry Chef Glen Williams have opened an additional more informal restaurant Foxcroft<\/strong>, at High Constantia.<\/p>\n

#   Shego<\/strong> Turkish restaurant has opened in Cape Royale Luxury Hotel in Green Point.<\/p>\n

#   Idiom Wines<\/strong> has opened its new Restaurant and Wine tasting room.<\/p>\n

#   Papa San, previously of Takumi, has opened his own restaurant Obi<\/strong> in conjunction with Ben Bettendorf, on Long Street.<\/p>\n

#   The Catch Fish & Chips<\/strong> has opened in Hout Bay.<\/p>\n

#   Cheyne\u2019s<\/strong> is opening a cocktail sake bar, to be called Fire Monkey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

#   Chef Ivor Jones has teamed up with Chef Liam Tomlin, to open a second Chef\u2019s Warehouse at Beau Constantia<\/strong> wine estate.<\/p>\n

#   Easy Tiger<\/strong> has opened in Kenilworth.<\/p>\n

#   Chef Cheyne Morrisby is opening a Ramen and Japanese Grill House called SHIO<\/strong> in Green Point.<\/p>\n

#   I Love Coffee<\/strong>, the first deaf-run coffee shop in SA, has opened inside the X-Body Fitness Gym in Claremont<\/p>\n

#   The<\/b> Salt<\/b> Yard<\/b> restaurant has opened in Mowbray.<\/p>\n

#   The Harbour House Group<\/b> has taken over The Grand on the Beach, and has re-opened.<\/p>\n

#   Chef Garth Almazan, previously of Catharina\u2019s at Steenberg, is opening a restaurant in Paternoster.<\/strong><\/p>\n

#   Jarryd\u2019s<\/b> is opening a second branch, on Hout Street. It has also opened a bakery section, called Bentleys Bakery Co.<\/p>\n

#   Three Wise Monkeys<\/strong> Izakaya and Ramen Bar has opened on Regent Road in Sea Point.<\/p>\n

#   Unframed Ice Cream<\/strong> Parlour<\/strong><\/a> has opened on Kloof Street.<\/p>\n

#   Coco Safar<\/strong> has opened in Cavendish Square.<\/p>\n

#   Tre<\/strong> Steampunk<\/b> Club Restaurant and Bar<\/strong> has opened.<\/p>\n

#   Chef Bertus Basson is opening new restaurant Spek & Bone<\/strong> off Dorp Street in Stellenbosch.<\/p>\n

#   Chef Bertus Basson is the new Chef Patron of the Bertus Basson @<\/strong> Ritz Hotel <\/strong><\/span><\/a>Revolving Restaurant in Sea Point.<\/strong><\/p>\n

#   House of H<\/strong> has opened.<\/p>\n

#   Villains Pub and Ale House<\/strong> is to open in October.<\/p>\n

#   Baconville<\/strong> is to open in Willowbridge in November, a second restaurant by Richard Bosman.<\/p>\n

#   Terra Madre<\/strong> has opened in Elgin, for lunch on Fridays and Saturdays from 10h00 \u2013 16hoo, owned by Nicole Precoudis.<\/p>\n

#   Mangata<\/strong> has opened in Simon\u2019s Town.<\/p>\n

#   Tea in the Park<\/strong> has opened in the Green Point Urban Park.<\/p>\n

#   Cabana<\/strong> will open in The Ritz in November<\/p>\n

#   Black & Co<\/strong> will open in Constantia as a coffee and gift shop.<\/p>\n

#   Pikant<\/strong> has opening at Uitkyk as a pop-up restaurant, operating until 29 January.<\/p>\n

#   Chefs has opened in Gardens<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, with Chef Jenny Ward in the kitchen.<\/p>\n

#   The restaurant at Glenelly<\/strong> has opened, with Chef Christophe de Hosse.<\/p>\n

Restaurant Closures<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

#   Rafiki\u2019s<\/strong> has closed down.<\/p>\n

#   Takumi <\/b>has closed down<\/p>\n

#   Tuscany Beach<\/strong> in Camps Bay is closed for renovations. The new restaurant The 41<\/strong> will open in October.<\/p>\n

#   Chandani<\/strong> has closed.<\/p>\n

#   Borage Bistro has closed down at its Bree Street premises<\/a><\/strong>, to relocate to new premises.<\/p>\n

#   [spasie] on Church Street<\/strong> has closed<\/p>\n

#   The Nunnery<\/strong> has closed on Bree Street. A new bar The Station<\/strong> will open.<\/p>\n

#   Palma<\/strong> has closed on Bree Street.<\/p>\n

#   Isola<\/strong> on Wale Street has closed down.<\/p>\n

#   Mimmi to Go<\/strong> in Hout Bay has closed.<\/p>\n

#   Caf\u00e9 Dijon<\/strong> in De Waterkant has closed down<\/p>\n

#   Ravish<\/strong> on Bree Street has closed down.<\/p>\n

#   Chef Conrad Gallagher appears to have closed down Caf\u00e9<\/b> Chic<\/b> and have left Cape Town!  He is reported to have opened a restaurant Gallagher\u2019s on Stanley<\/strong> in Port Elizabeth, despite not having paid suppliers in Cap[e Town!<\/p>\n

#   Baked Bistro Bakoven<\/strong> has closed down.<\/p>\n

#   Orinoco<\/strong> on Bree Street has closed, said to be reopening elsewhere next year.<\/p>\n

Restaurant changes<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

#   La Parada<\/strong> and Harbour House<\/strong> have opened in the former Constantia Nek restaurant building.<\/p>\n

#   Reuben\u2019s Franschhoek<\/strong> <\/a>will move to new premises, and its past space is to become a Woolworths.  It has closed for renovations<\/a><\/strong>, and reopens at its new location at 2 Daniel Hugo Street in March 2017. It will operate as a pop-up restaurant at the Riffel-owned Racine at Chamonix.<\/p>\n

#   <\/strong>OYO at V&A Hotel has re-opened after a complete renovation, and is now called Ginja.<\/strong><\/p>\n

#   Chef Johann Breedt has bought Viva Caf\u00ea<\/strong> <\/b>in Green Point, which is to be renamed Bernie\u2019s<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

#   Tiger\u2019s Milk Smokehouse<\/strong> is opening where Emily\u2019s used to be on Kloof Street.<\/p>\n

#   The Long Table Restaurant and Caf\u00e9<\/strong> at Haskell Vineyards closed in March, and will re-open after an extensive renovation, upgrade, and general maintenance, to be run by the winery itself when it re-opens.<\/p>\n

#   La Cuccina<\/strong> is to open an outlet in the former Andiamo in the \u2018old\u2019 Cape Quarter.<\/p>\n

#   Kan10<\/strong> has opened in De Warenmarkt, offering lunches, \u2018grab-and-go<\/em>\u2019, and dinners, with Chefs Nic van Wyk and Westley Muller.<\/p>\n

#   Chef Liam Tomlin is on a major expansion spree. He is taking over and renovating the former Takumi space as an Indian tapas bar,<\/strong> on two floors, opening in about three months. His chef Sheldon Raju will head up Thali<\/strong> restaurant, and the project partner is Dimo Papa Christodoulou of Fat Cactus and Long Street Cafe. They will not take reservations.<\/p>\n

#   Chef Warwick Taylor, ex-Creation, has opened SOURCE restaurant in Hermanus,<\/a><\/strong>where Season and Biga used to operate.<\/p>\n

#   The Village Tart <\/a>has opened<\/strong> where Gideon\u2019s Pancakes used to be in Franschhoek.<\/p>\n

#   Chef Eric Bulpitt and his team have left The Restaurant at Newton Johnson, and have opened Faber<\/strong> at Avondale<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

#   Chef Bertus Basson is renovating Overture<\/strong> in winter 2017.<\/p>\n

#   The Fat Butcher<\/strong> has opened in Stellenbosch.<\/p>\n

#   The Creamery<\/strong> is to open in Claremont.<\/p>\n

#   OpenWine<\/strong> Taste Pair Shop<\/b><\/a> has opened on Wale Street.<\/p>\n

#   The Mess<\/strong> has opened in The Rockwell, previously Caf\u00e9 Dijon<\/p>\n

#   Adam Whitehead of The Power & Glory is said to take over the Rafiki space<\/p>\n

#   Birds Caf\u00e9 on Bree Street has undergone a transformation, and reopened as Mink & Trout<\/strong><\/p>\n

#   Five Rooms at the Alphen Hotel has been transformed into a contemporary art gallery restaurant blanko<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

#   Chef Kobus Van Der Merwe has moved out of his Oep ve Koep venue in Paternoster, and reopened at Wolfgat.<\/strong><\/p>\n

#   Orinoco<\/strong> is closing at its current premises on Bree Street on 15 October, and reopens next year at an as yet unidentified location.<\/p>\n

#   Original Deli in Hermanus has changed its name to Soul Cafe Hermanus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

#   The Grand Camps Bay will open as La Parada<\/strong> at the beginning of November.<\/p>\n

#   A seafood restaurant<\/strong> is to open on Bree Street, where Palma used to operate.<\/p>\n

#   La T\u00eate<\/strong> is to open where Orinoco operated on Bree Street.<\/p>\n

#   Chefs Nik van Wyk and Westley Muller have taken over the restaurant at Haute Cabriere<\/strong>, retaining the name of the restaurant.<\/p>\n

Chef and Restaurant staff changes<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

#   Chef Angelo Scirocco<\/strong> has left Chef\u2019s Warehouse, opening a new restaurant Urbanologi in Johannesburg, as its Head Chef<\/p>\n

#   Leopard\u2019s Leap Culinary Manager Martell Smit<\/strong> has left Leeu Estates.<\/p>\n

#   Marie-Louise Oosthuizen<\/strong> has moved from Caf\u00e9 BonBon to Leopard\u2019s Leap as its new Culinary Manager.<\/p>\n

#   Chef Duncan Doherty<\/strong> is consulting to the restaurant at the Century City Hotel.<\/p>\n

#   Chef Thomas Sinn<\/strong> has left Rivendell Restaurant, exploring new opportunities.<\/p>\n

#   Calim Anderson<\/strong> is the new Chef at Equus at Cavalli Estate.<\/p>\n

#   Manager Julian Smith<\/strong> has left Maison, for Cavalli. Alice Mfundisi<\/strong> is the new Maison Manager.<\/p>\n

#   Chefs Scott and Mel Shepherd<\/strong> have left Le Franschhoek hotel, and have moved to Caf\u00e9 BonBon.<\/p>\n

#   Chef Maritz Jacobs<\/strong> has left Boschendal and moved to Longridge.<\/p>\n

#   Chef Adele Grewar<\/strong> has left Overture, but is said to be returning to Bertus Basson at Spice Route. Chef Alistaire Lawrence<\/strong> has left Bertus Basson at Spice Route.<\/p>\n

#   Chef Garth Johnson<\/strong> is the new executive chef at The Maslow.<\/p>\n

#   Carl Habel<\/strong> is the new Manager of Nobu at the One & Only Cape Town.<\/p>\n

#   Ben Kirsten<\/strong> is the new Restaurant Manager at Tokara.<\/p>\n

#   Chef Jochen Heathcote<\/strong> is now the Head Chef at The Restaurant at Villa 47, formerly at Myoga and Open Door.<\/p>\n

#   Chef John van Zyl<\/strong> has left Urbanologi, to return to Liam Tomlin as Head Chef of his new Indian restaurant Thali<\/p>\n

#   Martell Smit has left Leeu Estates, and is the Manager of the new Melissa\u2019s in Franschhoek.<\/p>\n

#   Four&Twenty Caf\u00e9<\/strong> has opened for Tapas dinners, on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.<\/p>\n
