\"\"On Wednesday I attended a different format of wine tasting at OpenWine, having become an avid fan of the Tuesday evening one hour tastings hosted by different wine estates every week. It was a blind tasting of six Chenin Blanc wines, led by Tom Prior. <\/p>\n

The tasting was attended by OpenWine owners Marta Gobbo and Raphael Paterniti, wine \"\"consultant Markus Granlund, wine estate representatives Tom Prior (photograph right) and Khail van Niekerk, and three of us having been regular attendees at the Tuesday evening wine tastings. It was held over lunch, and Tom had selected a wine cultivar, and six wines within this, stocked by Open Wine. We were given paper and a pencil, wines were poured with black paper wrapping hiding all identification of the wines, and we were to score each wine out of 100, a score of 90 or more depicting Gold, 80 – 89 being a Silver Award, and 70 – 79 points denoting a \"\"Bronze Award. We made notes about each wine we drank. <\/p>\n

The six Chenin Blanc wines we tasted revealed after the tasting) were Delaire Graff Chenin Blanc Swartland Reserve 2014, Avondale Anima 2014, Bosman Optenhorst 2014, Migliarina 2015, Arendsig Site Specific Inspirational 2015, and \"\"Beaumont 2016.<\/p>\n

It was interesting that the Tasting attracted similar scores for some of the wines, and widely divergent scores for other wines. One of the wines was not in good condition, so we opened another bottle of the same wine brand and vintage, and \"\"experienced a very different wine. <\/p>\n

To conclude the tasting we were served a tasty Arancini ball enhanced with a mustard sauce., made at OpenWine. <\/p>\n

The aim of the blind tasting was to test alternative ways in which OpenWine can host wine tastings in future, and the decision was made after I left for another wine function. I have loved the educational wine \"\"estate-led tastings to date. Other alternatives are blind tastings of a mix of brands, and food and wine pairings, and a mix of these options spread over a month may be an option. Once we have received this information, we will announce it on the Blog. <\/p>\n
