Kelly, and on Friday evening, after Bafana Bafana and\u00a0Mexico drew their match.\u00a0\u00a0 One could have sworn that Mandela had just been released from Victor Verster all over again!<\/p>\n<p>Soccer fans are celebrating in various\u00a0locations in\u00a0Cape Town:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 The <strong>Cape Town FIFA Fan Fest <\/strong>at the Grand Parade Fan Park\u00a0can hold 25 000 &#8220;jollers&#8221; (Afrikaans word for \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcpartygoers&#8217;), but it is estimated that 42 000 partied there on Friday.\u00a0 Local bands will perform at the Fan Fest every day, from 11h00\u00a0&#8211; 23h00.\u00a0 More than 100 artists will perform at the Cape Town Fan Fest on the Grand Parade, reports the <strong>Cape Argus<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0According to the <strong>People&#8217;s Post<\/strong>, Goldfish performs today at 18h00;\u00a0tomorrow BLK\u00a0Sonshine\u00a0and CODA perform from 18h00; \u00a0Loyiso\u00a0is on stage on 16 June, Liquideep\u00a0on 17 June, and The Rudimentals\u00a0on 18 June.\u00a0 Other performers include Robbie Jansen and Friends, Project, Kalahari Surfers, Brasse Vannie Kaap, Iqulah, Fezeka High School, Soul Makossa!, Ghorwane, Phuzekemisi, K&#8217;Naan (29 June), Karambola, FreshlyGround, Capsolys, Abekaya, Gang of Instrumentals, Danny K, The Rockets, Prime Circle, Flat Stanley, and Flash Republic.\u00a0\u00a0 Local South African foods such as Cape Malay chicken curry, lamb neck potjiekos, boerewors\u00a0rolls and biltong\u00a0are for sale, as\u00a0are burgers, hot dogs, prego\u00a0rolls, calamari, lasagne, soup, pizzas, and French fries.\u00a0\u00a0 One may not bring one&#8217;s own food into the Fan Park.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 Other <strong>Fan Fests <\/strong>are at the Bellville Velodrome, Vygieskraal Stadium\u00a0in Athlone, the Swartklip Sports\u00a0 Complex in Mitchell&#8217;s Plain, and the Oliver Thambo Community Hall in Khayelitsha.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 The Brazilian community has turned the Civic Centre on Main Road in Sea Point into a home for Brazilian soccer fans.\u00a0\u00a0By day\u00a0<strong>Casa Brazil<\/strong>\u00a0will be\u00a0an exhibition area for the country, and at night it will have a Rio carnival atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 Cool Britannia, the United Kingdom&#8217;s largest events company,\u00a0is\u00a0hosting an on-going\u00a0soccer celebration\u00a0 at the <strong>Cape Town International Convention Centre <\/strong>for the duration of the World Cup.\u00a0\u00a0Every day a different qualifying country will be showcased, from midday \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 3h00.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The opening act was\u00a0Estelle (\u00e2\u20ac\u02dcAmerican Boy&#8217;), performing in South Africa for the first time.\u00a0 Other performers that are expected\u00a0are Fatboy\u00a0Slim,\u00a0340ml, Tucan\u00a0Tucan,\u00a0Euphonik, HHP,\u00a0 Black Coffee, Milkshake, Ricardo da Costa, La Vuvuzela, Liquideep, Flash Republic, Dean Fuel, and Roger Goode.\u00a0 DJ Fresh and DJ Dino Moran will also be on show.\u00a0 The Parlotones will end off the month-long party.\u00a0\u00a0 South African fashion design by Gavin Rajah will be featured at\u00a0a fashion show on 15 June.\u00a0 Ticket\u00a0prices range from R 150 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c R 400 per person, and can be bought at Computicket.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0 As a non-official &#8220;fan mile&#8221;, <strong>Long Street <\/strong>has plenty of vibe (and beer), and the most popular watering holes are The Dubliner, Joburg, Lola&#8217;s and Long Street Cafe, the World Cup volunteers tell me.<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0 The <strong>V&amp;A Waterfront <\/strong>is also attracting soccer fans (100 000 visitors on Friday), due to its proximity to the Cape Town Stadium.\u00a0 Ferrymans is popular,\u00a0the Paulaner Brauhaus is entertaining the German fans to Cape Town, the Lookout Village marquee on top of the parking garage on the Granger Bay side, and\u00a0the MTN Fan Zone near the Clock Tower is also attracting soccer fans.<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0\u00a0 Other popular pubs are the Fireman&#8217;s Arms off Buitengracht Street (supported by England fans), Tommy&#8217;s Sports Bar in Loop Street (supported by Dutch fans),\u00a0 Pata Pata in Bree Street (supported by Cameroonian fans), 4 Ways in Darling Street (supported by Nigerian fans), and the Mexican Kitchen in Long Street (supported by Mexican fans).<\/p>\n<p><strong>POSTSCRIPT<\/strong> 21 June: Cool Britannia was reported on <strong>Kfm <\/strong>yesterday to have closed down at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, due to unsatisfactory support.<\/p>\n<p>Chris von Ulmenstein, Whale Cottage Portfolio: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whalecottage.com\">www.whalecottage.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The World Cup has put Cape Town into a party spirit, especially on Thursday, when the Cape Town Fan Park outside the City Hall opened with R.
