The Sweet Service Award goes to the City of Cape Town, for its generous once-off donation of 2000 garbage bags to Camps Bay Clean, my litter clean-up initiative in Camps Bay, facilitated by Camps Bay/Sea Point Councillor Nicola Jowell. Councillor Nicola personally delivered the bags to my home yesterday.
The Sour Service Award goes to Standard Bank, and its branches in Fish Hoek and Sea Point. Earlier this week I took American visitors to the Fish Hoek Branch to exchange Dollars to Rands, at about noon. The Forex man was off on lunch, and we were told to wait for him for 15 minutes. We went for a walk, and had to wait for another client to be served first. Each client’s transaction takes about half an hour, for the paper work to be processed. A precious Tourist Guiding hour wasted. Later this week I waited at the Sea Point branch for someone to assist me in printing out a bank statement from an account that does not have a card and hence cannot be done at an ATM. It took 30 minutes to finally get it done, with only one other client in the bank, and at least six staff members visible in this time!
