Lockdown Level 4 a major setback to Cape Town & Winelands Restaurants just getting back on their feet again! July update

Last month I reported how well the restaurant industry was doing, booming since being allowed to serve alcohol again since February, and that two new top restaurants were opening in June:  Utopia Co-owner Executive Chef Pavel Dimitrov opened Zest Restaurant in the new kings boutique hotel in Piazza da Luz in Sea Point, and Homespun Chef Matt Schreuder opened his second Homespun, at the Andros Boutique Hotel in Claremont (Photograph).

The Lockdown Level 4 regulations announced a week ago to curb the Covid Third Wave, closing restaurants until 11 July and only allowing Food Collection and Delivery, is having a devastating effect on the industry, two new closures announced during this past week. Many restaurants have closed and are giving their staff annual leave. Many have done the sums and cannot reach or exceed the breakeven point. The list of Restaurants in Cape Town and the Winelands which are offering Food Collection and Delivery follows: Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 4 of Level 4, 1 July 2021

Thursday 1 July 2021, Day 4 of Lockdown Level 4. 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for more rain, mainly this morning but raining again now ☔️, and wonderful to see the sun for a while for a change, with a wonderful sunset, creating lots of pink on the clouds over the Twelve Apostles and in Bakoven; for two heart clouds 💗; for surviving another apartment noise disturbance night 😱; for a good working morning, preparing for two client meetings; for two Bakoven walks, one at lunchtime, and another after my meeting late afternoon; for my rolls waiting for me at Dinkel Continue reading →

Restaurants offering Food Delivery/Collection during 2021 Level 4 Lockdown: Cape Town and Winelands.

P

Cape Town and Winelands Restaurants have been quick to set up a Delivery and/or Collection Service, since President Ramaphosa announced the Level 4 Lockdown on Sunday,  closing down all restaurants for Sit-Down Service in the country.

Whilst surviving two restaurant closures in Lockdown last year, this restaurant Level 4 closure appears to have caught many by surprise. Many restaurateurs have become wiser through last year’s experience, and have calculated the break even point in terms of minimum income to be made. Combined with the rain all week to date and freezing cold, and the fear of the fast-spreading Delta Covid variant, many restaurants are making losses by being open for Take-Aways. Continue reading →

Restaurant Winter Specials: Cape Town and Winelands (10 June 2021)

The Winter months are always tough on restaurants, as diners are not keen to leave their homes when it is cold and wet. With the reduced trade, added to Loadshedding,  and the earlier Curfew start time, restaurants are keen to attract business by offering Winter specials.

I will compile an ongoing Restaurant Winter Specials list for Cape Town and Winelands Restaurants, updated regularly. I welcome all information about Winter Specials. Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 3 of Adjusted Level 2, 2 June 2021

Wednesday 2 June 2021, Day 3 of Adjusted Level 2 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for sleeping through the early morning Loadshedding, but not so lucky tonight, having 20 minutes to finish this post for the next Loadshedding; for getting the preparation for my client meeting completed in very good time, allowing me time to walk to Woolies, to cash in on the R100 voucher I received for my two Discovery Gameboard plays by buying Sheba tinned cat food, which my babies adore, striking double luck, as they are on a special; for finding parking to drop Continue reading →
