*   The price of petrol is to increase by 96 cents a liter from Wednesday 4 March. The main price influencers are the increase in the price of crude oil, as well as the depreciation of the Rand against the dollar.

*   Mr ‘50 Shades of Grey‘ ‘Christian Grey‘, aka actor Jamie Dornan, is reported by the Weekend Argus to shoot his next film ‘Jadotville‘ in our country and in Ireland from April. The actor has already announced that he will not appear in any ‘50 Shades of Grey‘ movie sequels!

*   Cape Town Tourism has launched a walking tour of suburbs of our city, with VoiceMap Walking Route App. Capetonians ‘guide’ visitors to the city through their favourite suburbs. Continue reading →

UK restaurant reviewer Nick Lander praises Cape Town cuisine and its view!

Chef's Warehouse exteriorWhen UK wine judge and writer Jancis Robinson visited Cape Town last month, she brought her restaurant critic and former restaurateur husband Nick Lander along.  He visited a handful of Cape Town restaurants, focusing mainly on Cape Town’s favourite foodie Bree Street, and wrote a brief overview about them.

Lander wrote that he found it hard to concentrate on Chef Christo Pretorius’ dishes of a lamb terrine, kingklip, and a milk and honey dessert, whilst eating at Azure at the Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa, given the breathtaking view onto the Atlantic Ocean: ‘Cape Town’s natural beauty is so striking that it is impossible for any chef to compete‘.  He blamed the lightweight Cape Town restaurant overview on the view! Supa Quick Sweet Service and Arnold’s Auto Services Sour Service Awards!

Supa QuickThe Sweet Service Award goes to Supa Quick and its mechanic Nico, for making a plan to fix a brake pad problem on my car on a Saturday, the new brake pads having been installed by Arnold’s Auto Services just a month ago.  One of the pins holding the brake pad had broken, and was scratching the tyre rim, making a dreadful noise. Nico replaced it with a temporary pin until they could order the part from the supplier on a weekday, without charge. Continue reading →

Immigration Regulations become political Tourism hot potato, could become a recession tipping point!

Cape Town Stadium and Table MountainThe DA-run Western Cape government appears to becoming embroiled in a political battle with the ANC government about the Immigration Regulations.  Earlier this week the Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba demonstrated his arrogance when he was called to appear before a Western Cape Provincial Parliament’s Economic Opportunities, Tourism and Agriculture Standing Committee.

After having failed to appear before the Standing Committee in September, Minister Gigaba was sent a summons to appear earlier this week.  The Minister dismissed the Standing Committee’s request to delay the implementation of the Immigration Regulations, particularly the requirement that tourists have to apply for the visa in person, saying that he had not been given any Continue reading →
