*   The inflation rate has dropped to 4,4%, a three year low, and down from 5,3% in December.  The lower petrol price and slower food price increase benefited the inflation rate.  The price of petrol is expected to increase in March.

*   SAA is two-thirds through its 90 Day Action Plan, with a ‘business unusual’ approach to turn the airline around.  ‘Cost-compression‘ measures have helped to achieve relative stability. Loss-making flights (to China and India) are to be cancelled, taken over by Middle Eastern airlines, and linked to SAA via code-share arrangements. More flights to Mauritius, Maputo, and Harare have been scheduled.

Loadshedding impacts on Tourism, says SA Tourism!

Bedside lightsOn Kfm yesterday I heard a news broadcast, with its leading story being that SA Tourism has admitted that loadshedding is affecting tourists, making the announcement more than a month after loadshedding returned with a vengeance.

SA Tourism CEO Thulani Nzima said that loadshedding affects all sectors of the Tourism industry, including getting tourists to attractions on time, influenced by traffic lights not working.  He added that we are not the only country with power outages.

*   SAA has applied to service a number of additional routes to existing destinations, which has been recorded in the Government Gazette: 3 flights a week to Luanda, one a week to both Kinshasa and Dar es Salaam, 3 per week to Harare, 5 further flights to Mauritius, and 7 to Windhoek.

*   In China trains are branded by SA Tourism, and images reflect giraffes, hippos, and lions.
