*.   South African exports into Africa are growing, says Wines of South Africa (WOSA) Africa head Matome Mbatha. Angola is taking 6 million liters of wine, of which more than 80% is sparkling wines, and predominantly JC le Roux, a brand they are ‘crazy about‘, Mbatha says. The 4,5 million liters of Nigeria’s imports from our country are mainly Pinotage and Merlot.

*   Western Cape Tourism Minister Alan Winde has announced the launch of a R6,5 million Design Innovation Seed Fund to kickstart its new Design Park, to find the province’s next Mark Shuttleworth.  The Design Park will be housed in the Cape Craft and Design Institute.  Applications for funding to make local design ideas a reality are now open to students, entrepreneurs, and small businesses.  The value of the Cape’s design industry is R14 billion, which could rise to R20 billion with the launch of the Fund, and employ 14000 persons, said Minister Winde. *   Kleine Zalze Wines  has appointed Alastair Rimmer as its new winemaker.  He studied viticulture in Stellenbosch, and has worked locally at Overgaauw, Agusta, Vergelegen Wines, and Darling Cellars, as well as internationally at wineries in Spain, California, Australia, and in New Zealand. *   The City Sightseeing Johannesburg & Soweto hop-on hop-off bus operation has won the international Best New City Sightseeing Operator of the Year, beating the service from three other international cities. City Sightseeing Cape Town won the award for Best Customer Services, not having ever had a complaint and receiving positive TripAdvisor reviews.

*   96 Winery Road is hosting a combined Thelema and Sutherland 5 course dinner, pairing each of 4 courses with a wine of each of the two brands, both made by winemaker Rudi Schultz, who will be present at the dinner on 18 July. Cost is R350. (received via e-mail from 96 Winery Road)

*   Nederburg Winemaster Reserve Noble Late Harvest 2013 won a Decanter World Wine Award trophy as the best South African sweet wine over £15.   Nederburg pioneered the production of Noble Late Harvest locally, its first Edelkeur being the 1969 vintage.
