I had not been to Spek & Bone yet, Chef Bertus Basson’s fourth restaurant, on Dorp Street in Stellenbosch. Bertus Basson @ The Ritz Revolving Restaurant is still awaiting official opening in Sea Point. I was severely disappointed with my visit to Spek & Bone with my friend Jenny last week. What was Chef Bertus thinking in setting up such a crap restaurant, given that he is on the Eat Out Top 10 list?! Eggcellent Easter Treats in Cape Town Southern Suburbs and Sea Point!
During the course of this week I had the idea to check out top outlets for their Easter food items, partly guided by their Facebook posts. I found five shops selling Easter biscuits and chocolate items, Four & Twenty Café offering by far the largest selection of Easter goodies, and the best quality items too. My Sugar offers the most creative Easter eggs.

After a record year of restaurant openings, the pace of new restaurants opening in Cape Town and in the Winelands has slowed down, with no new restaurant openings in January, to our knowledge.

Restaurant Review: Melissa’s Mantra Café in Camps Bay magnificent view, new concept!
About a month ago I bumped into the GM of the new Melissa’s Mantra Café in Camps Bay, which has a magnificent location above The 41 restaurant, overlooking the beautiful Camps Bay beach. The restaurant opened on Tuesday, and I went to try it out, knowing that its GM Ian Smith would be there. The new Melissa’s outlet connects original founder Melissa van Hoogstraaten to her Camps Bay origin.
