*   Bad news for tourists is that SA National Parks is closing Chapman’s Peak every Wednesday, from 25 February from 9h00 – 16h00, for a month, to clear alien vegetation! (received via Twitter from the Western Cape Government).

*   The Noordhoek Crush is a child-friendly wine event taking place at Noordhoek Farm Village on 28 March. Entrance is free and a ‘tasting passport’ costs R75. Eighty wines from 18 wine estates will be available to taste. The Noordhoek Farm Village restaurants will be open, with pop-up stalls added too. Live music. (received via e-mail from Siris Vintners)

*  Ghanaian rapper D Black has been holidaying in Cape Town, his Instagram and Twitter (with 146000 followers!) shows. He visited Robben Island, Table Mountain,CampsBay, and the V&A V & A Waterfront. He also recorded with local musician Donald in Denial.

*    Cape Town has been named by National Geographic as the second best Beach City in the world, the Clifton beaches mentioned specifically for their protection against the wind and expensive accommodation. The False Bay beaches, as well as Milnerton and Blouberg, are referred to.  Number one is Barcelona, with its Barcenoleta Beach. The rest of the Beach City ranking is Honolulu (Waikiki Beach), Nice’s three beaches, Miami Beach, Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, Santa Monica, Sydney’s Bondi, Tel Aviv, and Vancouver’s ten beaches.

*   Unemployment is at a six year high at 25%,  with a surprising figure of 36% for ‘extended unemployment rate‘ recorded too, being ‘people who have given up looking for jobs‘!

*  Reconsider‘, the TV commercial created by Ireland/Davenport for SA Tourism, has already been seen more than 700000 times on YouTube, and will also be flighted on CNN and National Geographic, reaching ‘more than 1,3 billion households’, the media statement of the agency claims!  The commercial highlights the beauty of our country, but also the specialness of our people.  Agency MD Philip Ireland said:We were very lucky to have a client who not only believed in us but who stayed incredibly close to the creative process, and refused to accept anything less than world class from us. At every step there was an absolute refusal to compromise. South Africa is a world class destination and it was imperative that the thinking and the execution were not just flawless, but better than anything the category had seen before‘, to which SA Tourism CEO Thulani Nzima added: ‘It puts the South African people at the heart of South Africa’s appeal’.
