*   The financially struggling SAA is losing even more money to interest on loans for its new fleet, which it cannot receive delivery of as Minister of Public Enterprises Malusi  Gigaba has rejected the proposal for not meeting the infrastructure development policies!

*   The KWV wine range has featured in The China Post, the year of its establishment being the same as the year of the late Nelson Mandela’s birth.

*   Three Ships is running a Facebook campaign from 13 March, awarding 300 bottles  of 5 Year Old Premium Select whisky live every second, within 5 minutes, to its loyal customers who know their whisky brand.  Fifteen questions have to be answered about Three Ships within 5 minutes.  A 10-day run up to the competition will provide background information to the Three Ships brand and to its distillery James Sedgwick.  (received via media release from De Kock Communications)

*   Cape Town just cannot stay out of the New York Times!  Travel writer Sarah Khan has profiled some of the city’s hottest coffee and quirky shops, linking the city to World Design Capital 2014.  In the print edition on Sunday, the article headline ‘Have some Dim Sum with your shirts’ introduces the article with the story about the success of I ♥ My Laundry, which recently opened a second branch in the city centre.   Other hot spots that are featured in the article are Loading Bay, Latitude 33, Haas, Pedersen & Lennard, House of Machines, and Los Muertos Motorcycles.

*   Standard Bank’s economist Goolan Ballim says that South Africa’s economy has underperformed ever since the global meltdown, which commenced in 2008.    He only sees a recovery in 2016 or 2017.

*   The price of petrol will increase by 38 cents a litre on 1 January, taking the new petrol price to R13,20 at the coast, reports the Weekend Argus.

*   According to eTV News (another) new (national) liquor law will force all bars to offer free condoms and free drinking water!   A bartender interviewed said that he did not see it as his job to offer sex education!  In a related article, Hotel & Restaurant writes that other guidelines applicable to accommodation establishments and restaurants that are contained in the draft liquor legislation are that the minimum drinking age may be upped to 21 years; that condoms supplied for free must be tested for efficacy; that pregnant women may not be served alcohol; the street outside the establishments must be kept clean and no loitering outside is allowed!;  women with long fingernails and sharp objects such as nail files and scissors may not be allowed in on-consumption premises!;  and any noise linked to the establishment selling alcohol must remain inside the establishment.

*   Global digital agency Critical Mass has been appointed by SA Tourism to develop a campaign which will attract more UK tourists to South Africa, something that has been in decline in the past three summer seasons!
