Cape Town and Western Cape show solidarity with Ukraine, Government of South Africa remains neutral!

 

On a historic day when the South African representative in the United Nations chose to remain neutral in a vote in support of Ukraine, one of 35 countries of 140 countries, the City of Cape Town lit up the Cape Town City Hall last night, sadly only as a once-off occurrence.

The lighting up of the City Hall follows the recent lighting up of the Western Cape Provincial Legislature on Wale Street, and was initiated by Mayor Geordin Hill Lewis. Continue reading →

*   The United Nations World Tourism Association (UNWTO) World Tourism Barometer reflects that international tourism grew by 4 % in the period January – June 2015. *   Uber has announced its contribution to the advancement of business opportunities for women, in collaboration with the United Nations, committing to creating 1 million jobs for women drivers around the world by 2020. (received via media release from Uber)

*   The Western Cape Government has announced an internet competition to the value of R12000, in two categories.  The Internet Innovation category seeks ideas from residents as to how the internet can improve the social and economic benefits in their neighbourhood, with a R10000 prize. *   South Africa is the most attractive tourist destination in Africa, overtaking Egypt for the first time, and is on the Top 25 global tourism destination list,  in the Bloom Consulting’s Country Brand Ranking Tourism Edition 2014/2015. Close to 200 countries were included in the survey, which measured the performance of the tourism industry, brand strategy, and online presence.  South Africa was followed by Egypt and Morocco in Africa.

*  South African accommodation establishments Babylonstoren, Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel, Cape Grace hotel, and the Saxon Boutique Hotel & Spa have made the Condé Nast Traveler 2015 Gold List of 100 World’s Best Hotels.
