German ZDF TV ‘Das Traumschiff’ episode ‘Kapstadt’ is good and bad PR for Cape Town!

 

I looooove ‘Das Traumschiff’, a German TV series that has been broadcast regularly in the past 20 years or so, so I was doubly excited when our city  ‘Kapstadt’ was the focus of the Boxing Day 2020 edition of  this series.

The edition could not have come at a better time, when our city’s Tourism industry is sorely missing its German tourists, and the Germans are missing not being able to travel to our city. But a subplot of the Cape Town edition has some political sensitivities, not good for our country’s image and tourism future. Continue reading →

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a lovely relaxed day; for it not being too hot, yet a bit humid; for a refreshing walk through Camps Bay this morning, wishing everyone for Christmas as I walked past them; for a fruit shop at Pick n Pay, not busy at that time; for a lovely deep sleep this afternoon; for a Camps Bay clean up this afternoon with Imtiaz, who seemed drained after working alone for two days, having good conversations with him; for Cape Town being the city featured in ‘Das Traumschiff’ on German ZDF TV today; for my Christmas collage created by Brian Van Hansen being included in my Canadian Tour Operator’s Christmas greeting collage with those of the other Committee members, mine at the top left; and for being happy and healthy. International Travel: when will South African skies reopen? Low Road and High Road scenarios

 

 

The future of Tourism in our country under the Corona Virus Lockdown has been up in the sky, so to speak, intra-provincial Domestic Travel just having been opened up. No further information has been available about inter-provincial travel, nor about International Travel until now, with a Tourism Recovery Plan just having been released by the Department of Tourism.

Business Tech has summarised the South African Tourism Sector Recovery Plan: August 2020, released by the Department of Tourism, reflecting best and worst case scenarios of when Domestic and International Travel will reopen. Corona Virus: South African Government announces drastic measures to contain and reduce COVID-19 infections!

 

At 19h40 today President Cyril Ramaphosa announced our country’s retaliatory and preventative measures against the Corona Virus, of which there are 61 cases to date, following an emergency Cabinet meeting earlier today. A National State of Disaster was announced. The President described the measures to be implemented as ‘urgent and drastic’.  Continue reading →
