Design Trends for 2016 were defined in 2013 already! ‘Digital Detox’ and ‘Retro Chic’ on the way!

Retro chicWhen I have the time, I attend Lauren Shantall’s Trendtalk meetings in the home of Cape Town design, the Inner City Ideas Cartel, on Waterkant Street. The talks focus on lifstyle, décor, and design.  So it was two weeks ago, when the 10th such meeting was addressed by a mix of speakers, a salute to the Milan Fair which was taking place at the same time.

The first speaker was not on the program, and represented Rock Girl, a ‘grass roots movement to inspire, encourage, and invest in women and girls’.  They had brought children along, unruly and without control, disturbing the rest of the audience.   The link to this association was not explained to the audience.

World Design Capital 2014: overpayment by City of Cape Town?

World Design Capital 2014The Cape Argus has reported that the City of Cape Town may have overpaid more than R300000 on Cape Town hosting World Design Capital 2014 to International Council of Societies of Industrial Design, the organisation which coordinates and awards the biennial World Design Capital host cities.

*   UK travelers make their travel bookings via the internet, in preference to calling, and are largely guided by personal recommendations made by friends, family, and colleagues.

*   South Africa is expected to source most of its tourists from India by 2020, according to SA Tourism Country Manager Hannelie Slabber.  Reasons for the increase are better airline connections, and our country’s growing reputation as a business and leisure tourism destination. Our big cities have been the focus of the marketing to date, but now Hermanus, Franschhoek, Port Elizabeth, and Stellenbosch will be promoted.
