The Sweet Service Award goes to ABSA in Garden’s Centre, for printing out our August bank statement at no charge, as it has not yet been received due to the ongoing postal strike, and was required to complete the VAT return! Werner Kleingunther, the branch manager, came to my rescue in printing out the statement from his office, in what threatened to become a half an hour wait in the very busy branch last Saturday, with one staff member short at the Enquiries desk.
The Sour Service Award goes to the Post Office for its on-going strike over a number of weeks already. When collecting our post from the box in the V&A Waterfront in August, there is hardly any post. I popped inside and asked the staff if they had not sorted the post yet. I was told that it was due to the postal strike (which I had not heard of), and that the workers were only due to go back to work on 8 September (but are still striking) Amongst my missing post was the monthly PAYE form, which had to be paid by 5 September, as well as the August bank statement, required for the VAT return at the end of last month! Ironically the pay-off line of the Post Office is: ‘We deliver, whatever it takes’!
