From November this year, Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings will connect Cape Town with Cologne in Germany, offering a direct flight once a week, reports Tourism Update.
Eurowings is a low-cost airline in the Lufthansa Group, and will commence its flights between Cologne and Cape Town from 5 November. The direct flights between the two cities is a continuation of the increased service by the Lufthansa Group in Southern African countries, a service which commenced with a codeshare agreement with Edelweiss on flights to Cape Town.
From July Eurowings will offer flights between Windhoek and Cologne.
The departure and arrival times are not the most convenient for travelers, the Eurowings flights from Cologne landing in Cape Town at 3h10 in the morning, and departing Cape Town for Cologne an hour and a half later, at 4h40, the latter being daytime flights. The Eurowings flights between Cape Town and Cologne will terminate on 26 March next year. Hotels are unlikely to check guests in at this early time, and guest houses will be even less likely to accommodate guests in the morning, unless the guests pay a full night rate.
The cost of the flights is around €630.
