The Sweet Service Award goes to the Cape Town Cycle Tour and its 35000 participants who took it in their stride to participate in the much-shortened ‘Solidarity Ride’ cycle race last Sunday, the route change resulting from the devastating fires in areas of the cycle route last week. Many cyclists wore red, to honour the firefighters in working so hard in fighting the many fires in the South Peninsula last week.
The Sour Service Award goes to the City of Cape Town, which did not take down the Cycle Tour signs, preventing parking and driving on Victoria Road between Hout Bay, through Camp Bay, and Sea Point, prior to this section of the route being excluded from the 2015 Cycle Tour. The signs were erected before the announcement of the change in the route, and were only taken down on Tuesday this week. Many visitors were confused by the signage, which was completely out of date by last Thursday already!
The WhaleTales Sweet & Sour Service Awards are presented every Friday on the WhaleTales blog. Nominations for the Sweet and Sour Service Awards can be sent to Chris von Ulmenstein at whalecot@iafrica.com. Past winners of the Sweet and Sour Service Awards can be read on the Friday posts of this blog.
