The 150 minute ‘Spectre’ James Bond movie, which was launched at our country’s cinemas a week ago, has a small starring role for South Africa, and for Cape Town.
The movie title ‘Spectre’ comes from the name of the ‘shady evil organisation‘ which has featured in six Bond movies already. The movie locations are Mexico, Rome, Austria, Morocco, and London. Central to the movie plot is a character within MI6 who is trying to launch an international spy agency called Nine Eyes. South Africa is the only country to vote against the establishment of such an agency, a positive decision given how the movie ends. A supposed SkyNews report shows Cape Town with a title ‘Cape Town in chaos‘, which may be less positive for our city, as there is a lot of smoke shown in the visuals.
As they say, all publicity is good publicity, and Bond movies have exceptionally high viewership. Despite the small role which our country and our city plays in the movie, it is an honour to feature in the latest James Bond movie ‘Spectre’.
The movie is showing in the V & A Waterfront and the Labia cinema.
