Cape Town is receiving world coverage for and from its VIP visitors, placing it on the map, having just been voted 11th Best City in the World of 25 cities by Conde Nast Traveler in its Readers’ Choice Awards.
The biggest coverage is from Rihanna, who is in town for her concert at the Cape Town Stadium this evening, having more than 32 million Twitter Followers, and being a very frequent Tweeter. She has already Tweeted her yacht trip, a visit to the Two Oceans Aquarium posing with the penguins, and Cape Town Stadium with Table Mountain in the background. In Johannesburg Rihanna was filmed at the Johannesburg Zoo, which was shown on German TV station ZDF‘s ‘Leute Heute’ show on Monday. The Times has speculated where in Cape Town RiRi is likely to dine during her stay, and Big Concerts has suggested Sevruga, Belthazar, Paranga, Wakame, and the Hussar Grill in Green Point!
Princess Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, were in Cape Town last week, and attended a function of the President’s Award for Youth Empowerment with President Zuma at the Table Bay Hotel. They also attended a dinner at Grande Provence in Franschhoek last week.
Celeb-spotting in Cape Town should be quite easy, with the cast for the movie ‘The Giver‘ likely to be in Cape Town for another six weeks, including Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, Taylor Swift, Alexander Skarsgard, Cameron Monaghan, and Katie Holmes. The R246 million movie is being shot exclusively in Cape Town.
The VIP presence in Cape Town and the media and Social Media coverage can only benefit Cape Town’s tourism and hospitality industry, a welcome start to the Cape Town summer!
