Whale Cottage Camps Bay Breakfast view Whale Cottage PortfolioThe Sweet Service Award goes to the weather in Cape Town in the past ten days, which has been picture perfect, putting on its best face to give the thousands of holidaymakers a fantastic time in our beautiful city.  As a guest house owner in Camps Bay, which gets badly hit by south-easters which can exceed 120 km/hour and can intimidate visitors not familiar with such strong wind speeds, we have been delighted, as our guests have been able to enjoy the beautiful view by sitting on our terrace for breakfast, and we have easily been able to get our laundry dry without fear that it blows away!   The forecast rain is to return just as the bulk of Festive Season holiday-makers leave Cape Town on Sunday!

Traffic chaos Cape Town New Year 2014 Whale Cottage PortfolioThe Sour Service Award goes to the City of Cape Town’s Traffic Services, which has failed in having control over the chaos on the roads between Camps Bay and the city centre.  At the traffic circle linking Signal Hill and the Table Mountain Cableway the most junior and incompetent staff are deployed to direct the traffic, the one allowing traffic from Tafelberg Road, while the other colleague blocks them from crossing Camps Bay Drive on the Signal Hill side of the traffic circle, causing a crazy traffic build-up on Kloofnek Road as well as on Camps Bay Drive yesterday!  In Camps Bay there were more City of Cape Town traffic officers writing out tickets and helping pedestrians cross the road than controlling the terrible traffic build-up or dealing with the rogue sedan and minibus taxis, whose drivers make U-turns where they want to!

The WhaleTales Sweet & Sour Service Awards are presented every Friday on the WhaleTales blog.  Nominations for the Sweet and Sour Service Awards can be sent to Chris von Ulmenstein at  whalecot@iafrica.com.   Past winners of the Sweet and Sour Service Awards can be read on the Friday posts of this blog, and in the WhaleTales newsletters on the www.whalecottage.com website.
