Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for one of our hottest days this summer, at 31C, without a breath of wind; for the fantastic work done by the 200 plus firefighters tackling the fire 🔥 at Rhodes Memorial, the Restaurant there (which burnt down), Mostert’s Mill on the opposite side of the M3, UCT buildings including the Library, and now spread to Deer Park in Vredehoek; for an otherwise relaxed day, even vacuuming the carpets and gaining good steps for it; for there being less litter around the Tidal Pool than usual, and lucky to have learner Marc help me with the heavy littering around the swings, he doing so for a school community project; for three sets of Beachgoers thanking us for cleaning up, something we seldom hear; and for being happy, healthy, and free 🙏💙

The Fire overwhelmed Social Media most of the day. UCT students were evacuated, accommodation being sought for students. So sad to loose all the books in the UCT Library, and for Mostert’s Mill to loose its roof and part of its windmill, a historic building and a landmark on the M3. . 🔥😡

Popcorn craze tonight, must find a movie to see with it.

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, lowered to Level 1 from 21 September, and moved back to Adjusted Level 3 from 29 December,  extended to 15 February on 11 January, extended but relaxed on 1 February, and relaxed back to Level 1 on 1 March 2021, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
