The Sweet Service Award goes to Dr Toni Bedford, who found my son a one hour dentist appointment slot when he made a very quick visit to Cape Town last week. One filling requires three visits to a dentist via the NHS in the UK, so getting two fillings done in an hour was a huge time saving and far cheaper too.
The Sour Service Award goes to ABSA Bank and its Sea Point branch. Earlier in May I received an Sms to state that the branch would be closed for a number of months from a date in May. I then received a call to say that the bank branch was not closing as planned, as the building renovation was not yet concluded. All Sea Point customers were meant to have received a second Sms, which most of us did not appear to have received! I am aware of a substantial investment I have with ABSA ending its twelve month term shortly, and asked if I could speak to someone about it, the two senior staff members who helped me with the investment originally having both left the branch in the past year. ‘Priority Banker‘ Thandekile Tshabalala wrote to me, volunteering her services for a meeting. I wrote back, requesting the meeting for 23 May at 14h00. I received no reply. I had to write to her and send the request again. She said that she had the appointment, and was expecting me at 14h00. I arrived slightly earlier, and had to wait for Thandekile past our appointment time. She sat me down in an office, without any paperwork, which I requested from her. She then told me how important she is, dealing with high net worth clients. After twenty minutes with her she still hadn’t given me a copy of my current investment agreement, and I walked out of her office, not having any confidence in her ability to extend my investment. I asked to see her Manager, who seemed to take quite some time to walk to where I was waiting for her. The Branch Manager Zida Dante was ice cold, did not introduce herself, nor did she ask for my name. She communicated complete disinterest via her body language, so I had no confidence in her either. I asked for her business card, and she could not find one, scratching in the drawer in the reception, which meant that the contact details had to be written out by hand by an assistant. I told her that I will be taking my money to another bank, being shocked at the pathetic service from these two staff members!
