Eat Out and Uber get fishy with November #UberLUNCH tomorrow!

Last month Uber and Eat Out collaborated for the first time, with an #UberLUNCH delivery of (misrepresented) hamburgers for two for R120 on the last Friday of October. Tomorrow they collaborate again, this time going fishy with a sushi delivery.

In Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban a 16-item sushi delivery will be made by Uber to one’s office or home, at the cost of R150, going off one’s Uber account. The Eat Out photograph for the promotion only shows 10 items, and it warns that the photograph is not ‘representative of the sushi that you will receive’!

When Eat Out and Uber collaborated last month, Eat Out claimed that the hamburgers were handmade by Chef PJ Vadas at his Hoghouse Brewing Company in Ndabeni – however he was at his branch at Spier on that day, where I was having lunch at the time, and he was preparing lunch for more than 100 guests of the Spier Secret Festival! Similarly, Eat Out claimed that the burgers in Johannesburg were made by Chef Marthinus Ferreira at his fine-dining restaurant DW Eleven-13, but they were in fact made by its sister tapas eatery The Grazing Room! One wonders why Eat Out regularly misleads its readers by exaggerating its claims!

In Cape Town the sushi will come from Active Sushi, offering 4 Monkey Bars, 4 rainbow rolls, 4 Sakura rolls, and 4 salmon and avocado rolls; in Johannesburg the sushi will come from KOI branches in Sandton and Rosebank, offering 8 salmon California rolls and 8 tuna fashion sandwiches; and in Durban a mix of prawn fusion Californian rolls, salmon roses, tuna chili roses, and bamboo rolls will be delivered from Jack Salmon Fish House.

There are delivery zones, so one must check in each of the three cities whether deliveries fall into the Uber delivery zone for the promotion. In Cape Town the delivery zone includes the city centre, Woodstock, Green Point – Sea Point, and the City Bowl. In Johannesburg the zone stretches from River Club to Dunkeld, and from Blairgowrie to Wynberg. In Durban the delivery zone is from Broadway to Umhlanga.

One can start ordering from 11h30 tomorrow, and deliveries will be done until the restaurants run out of stock.
